Good article on 247 about Dean getting benched....

Could Trey Dean's snaps at nickel start to dwindle?

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- When Florida's at full strength in the secondary, the Gators should be pretty tough to throw on. After all, cornerback CJ Henderson was named a preseason first-team All-SEC selection while his counterpart, Marco Wilson, was a freshman All-SEC selection in 2017 prior to suffering a torn ACL as a sophomore.

The safeties also returned virtually everyone from a year ago, and the Gators currently rank second nationally with 12 interceptions.

But when opponents have wanted to pass, they've pretty frequently targeted one of the few spots Florida had to find a new starter at in 2019. That's nickelback, or "Star," Trey Dean, who has had a rough go of things after a move to a new position.

On Saturday in a loss to LSU, Tigers quarterback Joe Burrow exploited the matchup repeatedly in the first half. So much so that Florida eventually made a switch, moving Wilson inside to nickelback in the second half and sending true freshman Kaiir Elam outside to man Wilson's spot.

Wonder why it takes so long for this to be picked up by those who supposedly know what the hell is going on. Many of us who have watched the games have talked about how poorly Dean has been playing and has improved zero since he has been here, especially in regards to technique. Coaching? maybe. Player? Maybe. Either he pulls an Ahmad Black or he will be looking elsewhere.

That’s what we do as coaches. Our job’s to put people in the best position that they can be in."

Maybe the emergence of Elam is allowing this

Henderson has looked good this year. Wilson man... definitely struggling to come back from that injury mentally.

If there's a positive to that, it's that we just assumed we would be losing our 2 CBs this season and would be really young there next season. With Wilson not looking 100%, maybe he returns. If so, between he, Elam and Hill, we at least have some experience going into 2020.

Yea, and Wilson got moved to Dean’s spot against LSU so he might be cross training the rest of the season. Elam looks good. Move Dean to safety, might really start developing something back there.

Aside from dropping a pick 6 against Towson, it'd be great to see even more of Jayson Hill.
