I like Pierce but I think the reason Mullen goes with Perine is he's damned good in pass protection and has good hands out of the backfield. I agree that Pierce is a stronger runner between the tackles.
Pierce was starting to get more of the load. Got 2 of the first 7 series against Towson. Mullen turned it over to Jones/Davis after that. He had 11 carries against UT. I’m sure he was in for more plays as well. He was in on the third series against Auburn when he got knocked out. I’m guessing the plan was for him to get every 3rd series, if not more. No telling after the concussion though. Shame. He could’ve broken LSU tackles just as well as Perine.

For shiggles, here is our offensive performances to date with Rush / Pass / TO_Margin

Code:
MIA    50 / 254 / -3
UTM    231 / 312 / 1
@UK    138 / 300 / 2
TN    128 / 313 / 1
TOW    160 / 262 / 3
AU    132 / 266 / 0
@LSU    146 / 311 / -1

That's averaging 141 / 288. Under 200 rushing, which we knew; and near 300 passing, which is our bread and butter. That's also a net positive on TO margin with the notable miserable experience of MIA. Don't turn the ball over, use enough run to keep the defense honest, and we should be able to pass more than enough to win by double digits.

What I didn't compare is OUR defense and the USCe offense. Maybe later.

I think the rain makes it very hard for defenders to cover receivers. I've seen some big passing games in the rain, as long as the QB isn't affected too much. Since Trask is a big dude and not much of a runner anyway, it probably won't affect him as much as a smaller QB trying to grip the ball and make running cuts.

rain likely will bother us as we want to pass primarily. rain favors running teams, which we are not. if crete actually knew anything about the run game (other than the fact that it gets him erect) he'd know this :lol:

As long as Trask can throw a good wet ball rain can help passing teams too...our receivers know where they are going leaving the reaction and higher probability of a corner not keeping up greater...could be some big plays available.

This is correct. It favors the offense as long as the QB can handle the elements and throw in those circumstances. The DB has to guess, which leaves them more prone to slipping or rounding things off rather than reacting.

Seems like Wuerffel played more games in the rain than during dry conditions, and was money regardless. Not sure what to expect from Trask because, as I said, it's yet another new situation for him.

In any event, I'm kind of hoping Davis misses the flight.

Not to worry about the weather this weekend, I have it on good authority that it's going to hit Tennessee and Kentucky instead.

This seems like conditions where Van Jefferson would excel. I'd love to see him have a great day.

As an OC in HS for 8 years I loved to throw in wet conditions. Our receivers knew where they were going and the DBs struggled to lock us down. Changing direction is tough on a wet track if you arent sure which way to break. We score at will on Saturday if we mix it up!
Go Gators!

I should have looked first I guess, but to be completely honest, I have been staying out of the multiple page threads because of all the negative sh*t being flung.
