Doing the same thing over & over, expecting different results is the definition of insanity...and I had really hoped we had learned from our past miscues...so much for hope this year...damn people I have to live with this sh*t 19 miles west of Athens.

Good summary C2.

For all the reasons posted in this thread our first series set the tone for the game. It was obvious that our offensive coaching staff after 2 weeks to prepare for this game , was woefully under prepared.

On the defensive side of the ball our secondary couldn't cover anyone , and made up for it by not tackling. There is plenty of blame and I won't criticize any individual player. This game to me was lost in the game planning and execution of that plan. As good as Mullen and team had been in winning games we could and maybe should have lost, Miami UK and even USC, this one was on the coaching staff.
We may have had a solid plan coming in but our ability to make corrective in game adjustments just wasn't there. Georgia is not LSU but after our last score did anyone really believe that our defense would force a punt? We all knew that we don't have the depth of talent that Georgia has. As Dennis Green said "they are who we thought they were." Some of us started to believe that great in game coaching could overcome talent. Maybe, but when your coaching team does not bring their A game losses like this happen. This team was not well prepared to win.
No matter how this season ends it is obvious that we must get bigger tougher and faster everywhere.
We must significantly update our recruiting of high impact 4 and 5 star players. On this board we discussed these issues , and one first step is to increase our recruiting resources to the level of the elite SEC programs like Bama and UGA. Increased funding, and recruiting staff upgrades required now. If not we will have to settle for more games like yesterday, and then get ready for Vandy week.

Way back when I was a kid playing organized football, I started out on the D line. It was laughable because I was so small compared to the other kids on the line. There was no way I was ever going to blow up the guard or tackle and stuff the play like a defensive lineman should be capable of doing. So I would instead try to use quickness to basically run around the blocker and once in a while it worked. I'd feint one way and dart the other way and occasionally be able to fill the gap or break into the backfield. The fact that it worked sometimes though doesn't mean it was effective. The vast majority of the time a small dude is going to lose the battle to the big dude at the LOS. And often times the feints and other quick moves took me out of the play without the other guy even having to block me.

This I feel is what Mullen and co are dealing with every time we go against an elite talent team like UGA or LSU or Bama. Just not going to beat those guys straight up at the LOS with the players we have. So we try all kinds of complicated blocking schemes and formations and misdirections and other work arounds hoping to get some leverage that we otherwise wouldn't have. Fake punts, throwback passes, insane QB draws, etc. He's trying to manufacture an advantage from a disadvantage. I think once in a while it works but there is no ignoring the talent gap and lack of depth that exists.

The best we can hope for is to continue beating the teams we should beat, win 10 or more games a year, and hope that eventually the recruiting catches up. I think he's done a good job creating an atmosphere and buzz around the program that makes it a place that kids should want to come to play football....we'll see if that winds up translating to recruits or not. Bottom line is no matter how good a gameplan he has or what plays he calls we ain't winning championships without Pouncey, Spikes, and Dunlap type players.

Thanks Coz Gator. Many on this board like you, Zambo and others are saying the same thing. We can only go so far with good coaching and it appears that we have a head coach who knows how to win. But at some point we hit the talent wall. We need the elite players and there is no reason why we can't compete for these guys. If our AD and President are committed to competing for an SEC and NC they need to allocate resources to our recruiting effort. UGA is a perfect example of total commitment to this goal. Looks like LSU and of course BAMA are there as well.

Yesterday’s display really causes me concern about the staff; they had two weeks to prepare for this game and that’s the best they could do? Two weeks and they were totally outplayed and outcoached by Kirby Shart. Shameful.

Good stuff in here. I was pissed last night and took it out on @SeabeeGator - my apologies, friend.

I can't really add much to all the b&tching, but what I'd like to see Dan work on in practice all week: short yardage plays, particularly Trask under-center QB sneak for half a yard. If you can't do that, you might as well concede. It's absolutely pathetic that we can't QB sneak for 10 inches.

If we don't see at least 2 coaches move on from this staff, I don't think it will ever get better than a 2 loss regular season - meaning, we won't be playing for any championships. Mullen needs to have a 'come to Jesus' moment.

Same. Sorry.

If Mullen doesn’t improve his staff management or recruiting, he’ll never be better than this or last season. I still think the potential is there but it’s not often that a tiger changes its stripes...

Well here we are again. We must recruit better and hire better people. In the same breath its often said that none of that matters without facilities. Cant win without both so...

This is the stuff I'll admit right now I don't understand....why is the first step backwards on a running play? Why aren't we firing off the line into the defenders?
And why does he turn inside, and block inside, like the run was meant to bounce outside? He should have blocked to the outside so the run could go INSIDE of him.

Maybe he knew the run was going inside so he moved over to make room for the runner? I have this image in my mind of a matador stepping away from a charging bull at the last second.

What? We ran the clock out down 2 scores. We ran SIX TIMES on that drive, taking our sweet-ass time getting up to the line over and over and over. It was beyond belief.

There was NO sense of urgency at all.
He just didn't want them to score again late.

He was playing for the moral victory and it was the first thing out of his fvkking mouth.

Loser.

He is a loser. He wasnt even mad. Imagine how SOS would have been in that press conference. Or that sick look Meyer had after every loss.

That's how winners take "moral victories".

Excellent as always C2. I won;t really add much other than Joe Lee Dunn Jr. still sux A$$ and that is on Cousin Eddie b/c he is the head coach. 2nd Down and 1 inch after they respot Perine's catch and run and what do we do? Turn it over on downs!. I will say one thing C2 and you can do what you will with it. I genuinely saw the UGA offense scheme and actually run combo routes to confuse our idiots in the secondary or even use some motions to create matchups and/or space to create opportunities. I liken it to a more old school, traditional pro style. We on the other hand seldom short motion and usually just line up and if there is a mismatch hopefully we see it. Heck we don;t even have an old fashioned middle screen to the RB in the playbook. That is not a bad play when you can't block a D-line. I guess I am saying that this simple high school offense that we have is only effective when there is exact precision. Against a good D it is not so potent. Watching 4 guys all do 5 yard stop routes constantly and not get open seems a lot like :deadhorse:

You are correct on no motion from our WRs and TEs. You have to create mismatches with motion, and if the WRs are just standing around to start the play, that's not setting up for a mismatch we can take advantage of.

Also - I know that without FF we don't have the "extra runner" (b/c face it, KT is not a running QB), but we need to see more off tackle and option or pitch than just run up between the tackles (and worse, the narrow space between the Gs). We had that opening 9 yd misdirection from Perine and that was fine, but didn't play up to our advantage, which is the speed of our ball handlers. No jet sweeps, no imagination in the run game, led to just 21 yds rushing.

I thought we had an above average OL coach?

We had 20? Wow must have really turned it on there at the end.
We do. But we have a below average play caller, who still won't change his ways. Hasn't since 2005.

Well, the facilities are planned and the $$ have been appropriated. They won't be ready until what, 2022? I guess the high school prima donnas being recruited between now and then will just have to go somewhere else because they'll never use them.

He sure looked like he quit when he exploded Billy G for making us burn a TD. But you’re right, of course. He doesn’t want to win. Like all non-Spurrier and Meyer and Saban coaches, he likes losing and the attention that comes with it.
