Stumbled onto FSU alumni tweets when Taggart was hired. They loved the hire and that jubilation was entirely based on the fact that it was a diversity hire, a black HC. I hope the fail hire again. Mostly, I want to get at least one top 2020 recruit from FSU's colossal collapse. How can those commits run FSU's promises through their minds, how can they still feel that they are valid. Those promises even with Taggart were never valid anyway. These last months of recruiting should be activated. We should have shots at decommits and leans deleaning.

Boosters bail FSU and its recently departed AD to the tune of 20m. That leaves zilch leftover to chase a big name.

It also calls into question the influence said boosters will demand in the next hire and how this colossal mess influences the entire college football hiring process moving forward. I guarantee everyone is watching this saga play out and taking notes.

FSU becomes the poster child for how to mishandle a coaching hire from every conceivable angle.

Tennessee says "hold my beer" because they have set the standard when it comes to screwing up a coaching search. I don't know if that kind of debacle will ever be replicated. It would be every Gator's wet dream to see FSU do what TN did after they fired Butch. We should all be rooting for Schiano to get a call from Thrasher.

Yeah but they are going to lose recruits now as well. Dumb timing on their part.

They were already losing recruits. Every week we'd hear about how many visits were being cancelled for them. From a recruiting view, cut now and run with an interim and hope your next announced head coach will start bringing recruits back in. Waiting means you miss the entire recruiting year with current kids de-committing and future kids not knowing who the coach will be.

Never underestimate the dumb factor with the clowns. As we showed with Mus & MacNus, and TN showed with their 17th choice...hiring a coach is fraught with mind blowing dumb possibilities. Law of averages says some school somewhere has to get it right, but so far, it's a down trend of 'hold my beer'.

I really wonder if I could have done a better job than Ol WiLLLLLie.

We all say, “I could have made that play”, when in reality our middle aged, no D-1 (or D-3) experienced butts would have never been in position to even make a play.

I’ve never coached or played. But, could I have done a better job than what WiLLLLLLLie did?

Realistically, I probably would do worse. But, I bet I wouldn’t have been much worse.

The fact that it’s not certain shows how awful WiLLLLLLLie is.
Your lack of any coaching experience would have guaranteed you would have done far, far worse than Willie. (FTR - I'd have done no better than you.) Having said that, most coaches I have seen would have done better. My kid's HS has become a power in their classification here in Ga. for the simple reason that they are very well coached. Last season they also had a crazy amount of talent, but this season was supposed to be a re-building year; Friday night they knocked off the number #1 4-A team in the state and won their 3rd straight region title. Having watched them for five years, the one consistent thing I have noticed is how rarely they are penalized or make mental mistakes; they also play very solid fundamental football.
While I am confident in saying a good HS staff would not be winning championships at the D-1 level, I can guarantee they would have FSU look better than the nulls did under Willie. It was inexcusable for a team at that level to make the kind of mistakes they were making. I never thought he was a great hire, but I did wrongly assume he was at least competent. I am starting to wonder if there is a whole lot wrong there beyond just what we saw on the field. They (we can only hope) may be really bad for a while.

Yet for some reason, FSU fans honestly believe they are loaded with cash just because a bunch of boosters scraped up $20 million. I do hope they continue to believe till they finally get someone to replace Willie.

Obviously they were able to raise that money quickly and something tells me they have the next coaches money already figured out.

Yes, I would be careful of predicting doom, gloom and ridicule for them as it pertains to the coaching search. Top flight candidates are usually high confidence guys who won't worry about Taggart's short tenure because they will expect to succeed. Who knows where the money to pay top dollar might come from? No one expected them to come up with $20 million to buy out Taggart and they just did.

As to candidates, I wonder if Hugh Freeze has repaired his reputation enough to be considered as a possibility? He would worry me more than Norvell or some of these other guys who haven't succeeded in a major conference. Stoops probably makes the most sense and would certainly stabilize the program. I am hopeful they mess this up but have learned not to underestimate opponents just because I don't like them.

Freeze would bring the kind of NCAA eyeballs that F$U has spent decades trying to avoid, they won’t go anywhere near him I’m betting.
