Why would Stoops bail on the XFL gig before ever coaching a game to take the FSU job? He had it made at OK and it seems he only left for a new challenge, not another college gig.

Bob Stoops probably can take this Taggart team and play respectably. Then we got to worry about his CEO effectiveness on FSU recruiting. No we don't need Bob Stoops kickin' down south.

Stuart Mandell having a field day with this right now on twitter. He asked Vils fans if the Gruden rumor is allowed by other teams as well.

Side note is that with XFL set to launch what does Vince McMahon put in the contract regarding buyouts or non-compete clauses?

Agreed. We were hoping Willie would hang out for a few more years and when that didn’t happen we were hoping FSU’s search would flounder and they’d end up with a mediocre at best coach. Stoops definitely doesn’t fit the bill. He may be on the back end of his career but he’d bring stability and a level of professionalism they’ve been missing. He’d have them competing and most likely winning 10 games per season. Let’s hope the Bob Stoops news turns out to be wrong.

I'd like to follow the paper trail of the boosters who came up with the $18 million AND what they have to pay their staff. Hard to believe it's above the table

IF they really have all that backing, Stoops would be a no-brainer.

Payout is over time and not lump sum. Boosters agree to pay over X # of years.

My only concern about Stoops at the SOW is its impact on recruiting.

Drop in a high schoolers living room with that 2000 NC ring and their eyes light up. They don’t care if it’s 20 years old.

In many ways hiring Stoops makes sense;
- No buyout (which they can ill afford)
- He’s an experienced HC at the highest level and unlikely to put an embarrassing product on the field. In a word, stability. 180 degree turn around from the Willie regime.
- He can start right away which could help with recruiting, particularly with keeping the current commits.
- He’ll possibly energize the older alums whose $ the Nulls desperately need.
- And while he may be an “old” name to ‘19 & ‘20 recruits, some guys in the transfer portal (who they are going to also desperately need - particularly OLs) will be well aware of him and possibly intrigued.
I hate to say it, but overall a pretty decent choice and in that conference he’ll have them competing with everyone but Clemson in a year or two.

It appears that last weekend may have been a total disaster on multiple levels for our Gators.

Assuming they land Bob Stoops, it's an example of a school doing everything it can to land their guy. Enormous buyouts or record contracts are not an obstacle. Get the program back where it needs to be, because football is the lifeblood of the athletic programs.

UF would never, ever, EVER do what FSU is doing. NEVER. Fooley and Stricklin are probably sitting back watching it unfold and having fainting spells.

2 years ago they couldn’t afford to match A&M’s offer to Jimbo, now they can afford to pay Bob 8 million a year? Well for all the ones that wanted Willie fired cause it was gonna set Fsu back, doesn’t look like it now. If this turns out to be true, very bad news for us. Also this is what an administration does when they want to win, they go after a big fish, and make him a real offer. Definitely don’t want this rumor to be true.

I don't think it can be said any better than this.

You know damn well any of these colleges can come up with the money if they really want to. If Bob Stoops is really interested, they will land him.

My original point. I don’t think he’s interested. Stoops could point his compass in just about any direction and command big money. Why FSU unless he’s cash poor for whatever reason?

Do you believe it's a false rumor that he was on campus? If he was on campus, he's interested.

Why FSU? They won the NC just a short time ago. They play in a conference with Clemson and no one else, which could be attractive. Their facilities blow ours out of the water. It's obviously a recruiting-rich area. Oh yeah, and NO state income tax.

It's not like FSU is NC State.
