Quote from AD David Coburn published an hour ago in the Tallacrappy Democrat (FWIW):
"Rumors we are close to an agreement with Bob Stoops are untrue," Coburn said. "We are on schedule to have someone in this position by end of the month... Chances of something happening this week are virtually zero."

Coburn said during his press conference Monday that FSU would like to have a coach in place by the end of the season, if not sooner.

"Stoops hasn’t been offered a contract," Coburn told the Democrat..

Stoops left a good coach behind at OU in Lincoln Riley. Before that, UCF's Josh Heupel was his OC. Similar style offenses. Makes sense that FSU would want that kind of offense in Tallahassee. Maybe they wanted to consult with Stoops about some of the younger coaching talent out there (some of his former assistants)???

My only concern about Stoops at the SOW is its impact on recruiting.

Drop in a high schoolers living room with that 2000 NC ring and their eyes light up. They don’t care if it’s 20 years old.

So, in an offensive recruit's living room, Stoops can remind them of OK's season of neat 60 point average ......... coach? Who did you lose that NC to that year.?

I'm gonna laugh if it turns out it is Mike Stoops, and not Bob

Yeah, bend over .... ain't that multiple bobs?

@PeteThamel: Sources: P.J. Fleck has agreed to a new seven-year contract at Minnesota. Deal includes significant pay raise for he and his staff.

Heupel would be my guess

I think UCF got smart after losing Frost and came up with a huge buy-out.

OK, I looked it up. He's making $1.7M/yr. plus incentives, and there is a $10M buy-out if he leaves before the 2020 Bowl.

I'm not sure if that means the bowl game following the 2019 season (which may be in December 2019 or January 2020) or if it means the bowl game following the 2020 season (assuming they get in one).

Let's say best-case scenario for FSU is the buy-out falls around $7M or $8M. That's a HUGE amount of money. Sure, it would be nice to get a coach that knows and has been recruiting Florida and establishing relationships with local high schools but I think that's more than FSU can afford. They could get Kiffin cheap, or maybe grab Dan Enos from Miami.

Bob Stoops makes sense in no buy-out, he can start recruiting right away, and he doesn't have a staff so if he keeps the existing OC and DC he saves this year's recruiting class.

But I still can't wrap by brain around Bob Stoops taking over at FSU, even if it is in a "CEO" role and he can throttle back on some of the actual work. It worked for years with Bobby Bowden though...

I dunno.

To you and others who keep making comments about Bob Stoops' age -- he's only 59!

I thought Stoops was an older guy too, because I think of him as a contemporary of SOS. But he's 15 years younger than SOS. He was only 36 when he was hired to be our DC. I misremembered him as being older than that at the time.

For anyone who thinks 59 is too old to be a successful head coach, don't look now but Ed Orgeron is only a year younger at 58. Nick Saban is 68! Bobby Bowden won his first national championship at age 64 and his second at 70.

A bigger problem than Stoops' age is the fact that he's been out of coaching for three years. The high school seniors he'll be recruiting this year were freshmen when he retired, and the last time he won a national championship, they weren't even born yet. So whereas Bob Stoops is a household name to us grown folks, some of those young recruits will hardly know who he is, if at all.
Now i'm scared again.

Curious to see FSUs budget.

@theothermegryan: #Gophers AD Mark Coyle shares P.J. Fleck's new salary is $4.6 million, with the new buyout if he were to leave at $10 million. Contract is 65% guaranteed

They realized they were opening themselves up for a lawsuit announcing before the end of the month. It will be delayed but it will leak somehow.
