Wow this Gators roster is LOADED. We are a super active and very athletic team. Plus we have 5 big men if you count when Gak comes back. KJ plays like a big man too as we saw last year with all those double doubles he had last year. So we have virtually 6 big men on the roster. White's recruiting is big time. I was very impressed with all of our freshman and also how active all our guys were on defense. Only the first game but lets get giddy Gators and enjoy the ride and hopefully no injuries. Go Gators!!

Wow, #1 MSU losers to UK freshmen. Done 10+ points most of the game. TERRIBLE game and clock management down the stretch, typical Izzo. I know that @FireFoley loves that aspect of the game and he would have been disappointed in Izzo too I am sure. Bill Self TERRIBLE game management down the stretch vs Duke and lose by 2 points. Early in the season obviously but wow, terrible coaching down the stretch for those HOFers.

They shot terribly tonight and still won easily against a very good team. There is a ton of talent on this team. It's just a question of whether or not they buy into White's team concept and trying to win a title or whether they are showcasing for the NBA. They should be fun to watch.

Sure is fun to watch this Gator patchwork quilt this early in the season. Wish they didn't have FSU too early in the schedule. Second game will be a wake-up call for these youngsters. If we face a team with big men that can neutralize Blackshear, how will his team endure? We gotta discover what Payne & Jitabo can do inside - each looks promising. Lots of unknowns to be cleared up.

FSU will bring out the fight in this group and the fight in Mike White. Rebound style looks much improved from last year. Development needs to occur one game at a time. If we beat FSU, wow! for these Gators' belief system.

I was at the game. Pretty flat atmosphere I thought.

Here's my thoughts -

With a team this young, off shooting nights will happen. Maybe this young team just came out tight, but most of the shots were good shots that just didn't drop. KJ is an absolutely gift for this program. Gonna be a great addition to this team, whatever we did to get him here will be worth it. Tre Mann is a bucket. Really impressed with his game this early. Payne will be a force to be reckoned with. Very athletic and LONG. JJ looked like he needed to get a little more conditioned, but he's a load.

I was surprised that the D wasn't as crisp. In the 2nd half, the defense was really off, especially on their shooters. The first few minutes of the 2nd half was a glimpse into what this team can do, then it just evaporated. Even CMW addressed that.

But I came to see Scottie. And felt like he was just forcing it offensively. I would have liked to see him take a few drives into the lane against those slow white dudes, but when this team gets some experience together, I think he will start giving some highlight material. His motor is ridiculous. And even watching him off the court, appears to be a real selfless team player, as did others on the court.

Gonna say again, the ceiling for this team is high, but will still take some experience and good fortune for it to be a rafter hanging year. It's going to be a fun ride!

Ok. Blackshear looks great. But its UNF. But they are a senior team and will be good. Mann looked the best freshman last night. I thought they played good def. most of the time. Best thing for them is to play games. I dont want them to believe they are there as a team. Their ceiling is high. With their quickness and athletic ability they can rattle teams with their def. I didnt see a rim defender last nite. I think its gonna be a fun team to watch.

It is very hard later in the game for any team especially a young one to maintain defensive intensity when they are blowing the doors off their opponent. I'm more concerned that our talented shotmakers get some confidence in their shots FSU is next. Start out cold and that could get in the young guy's heads.

Thanx for the mention @Jbossgator8 but I did not get to see any hoops last nite. although it worked out well that they were able to get the pre season top 4 in the same place to open the season. but as we all know these teams will be a lot different come March,

Nice to read that we have an athletic roster. I hope that means that we will have a lot more player movement on offense this year. But you don;t need athletic players for that nor do you have to play fast just b/c you are athletic. I just don;t want to see them standing around in the half court offense regardless of the talent they have.

Some good, some bad in the opener.

Let's get the bad out of the way- A lot of open looks for UNF that went down in the second half.
I believe we will get this corrected in time, but it's something to watch for in future games. I felt
Noah had some looks he usually knocks down, but played a decent game overall. Andrew had
some nice passes as usual, but was pretty quiet tonight otherwise.

Good- Obviously KB was lights out, Omar Payne is a fine asset off the bench. I was impressed
with him on both ends of the floor. Jitoboh probably won't play much, but if he has to I can see him
giving us a good 5 minutes off the bench. He was better than I thought. I can see why Scottie
was so highly rated. He's very quick off the dribble, and for the first time in forever we have multiple
players who can create their own shot. KB, Scottie and Tre Mann. Who I enjoyed watching play last night.
This is a more talented team than the one that went to the Regional final in 2017. But you never know
how the matchups in March will play out, or if these young bucks will lose their legs by that time. I'm
cautiously optimistic with this bunch.

Yep, I was particularly disappointed to see Locke clanging quite a few. However it is the first game.

Well said. Especially knowing the game is won and all they have to do is match baskets at the end. Cold shooting and still a good margin against a vet. team. Shots will fall Im confident.

IT these two stay healthy it will certainly cover a LOT of flaws and let downs. I thought they did a good job (first game) of getting the ball inside

Holy moly, this team is loaded like maybe never before when you consider the depth. And I think they just played one of the worst games they will play this year, and still were never even challenged. This team doesn't look like it has a weakness other than inexperience and the fact that you can only play with 1 ball and 5 guys at a time. I'm not worried at all with the shooting struggles. It happens but this team is stacked inside and out. What an exciting time for Gator BB.
