Why was Trask playing so late in the game?

You’re God Damned right he’s Dan F’in Mullen! 56 points in 3 quarters against a team Swonkey says always plays us tough. Wait until he gets 3.5 star OL’s in there. Wel’ll beat Vandy by 57! Seriously though WGAF? Good win!
CDM and crew better have a mighty uptick in effort, charisma, skill, and luck, in their recruiting game or that 3.5 * average might be a pipe dream. Oh, yeah...to UF administration: MAKE WITH THE DAMN CONSTRUCTION OF THE FOOTBALL ONLY FACILITY/DORMS AND UPGRADES TO RELATED BUILDINGS ALREADY!!!

The reason EJ didn't play the second half is because Mullen didn't want him scoring 5 touchdowns and starting a qb controversy. Hell, he score 3 tds in the short time he was in the game.

I think Mullen was still hot over the game in Nashville last year. I was there - a bizarre scene when Mason and some Vandy coaches (probably trying to catch Mason) came rushing across the field apparently to attack the Gator coaches? Can't remember what for it was a totally unexpected loss of control from the Vandy coach. Gator assistants were charging onto the field as well to meet him; refs going apesh!t trying to regain control. So today Mullen jammed another TD up his chute in the closing minute and called a timeout with seconds to go and a 56-0 lead.
I think it was part that and part that he sent the fg team out down 49-0 to try and keep from getting shut out instead of going for it.

It’s like bunting to try and break up a no-hitter when you’re losing by 10 runs in the ninth.

I guess Mullen figured if Vandy was going to try and score, he might as well too.

Or running the clock out with a 7 minute drive down by two scores then kicking off instead of onsides?

I remember asking my wife in the 4th quarter "What the fu#$ is Trask still doing in the game?'" She said "shut up puss let him play , this is fun".
I thought EJ would get the fourth quarter But I guess Mullen had a plan.

Tebow suffered a concussion in garbage time against Kentucky his senior year. Who knows whether this affected his play in the SECCG. If Trask had been injured in garbage time we'd be asking for Mulleh's head.

Not really, because there's nothing left to play for this season. This ain't 2009.

I was actually at that game, and I don't remember it being "garbage time", perhaps my memory is faulty. I do agree that Trask played more than I would have had him play, but I am not a coach.

There is plenty to play for. We need to win out to continue our momentum in recruiting. We need to smash Mizzu to start a new tradition. We need a big bowl game and to win it to set the new standard. We need to play well and win to have fun both for us fans and the players. We also need money that winning will generate from several sources.

Now there is almost no chance of making the playoffs, but that was a very long shot before the season began.

We heard about Trask being inexperienced, but Jones has only be in for a handful of plays (sometimes at the worst time in the game). But when an opportunity with a opponent who is just playing out the season, and the defense obviously taking it to the 2* talent on the other side. It's a great time to get Jones some real work in. But we put in the starter (in due to injury) who has been knocked out due to injury the previous two seasons back in when the game if effectively over? Goes against some of the stuff Mullen has been saying as the reason to get Jones in the game in bad situations has been saying all season.

Not sure where else to put this. Pretty good for coming in late in the 3rd game.

@osgators: Among SEC starting quarterbacks #Gators QB Kyle Trask is third in TD passes (19), yards per attempt (8.4) and passer rating (158.9), trailing only LSU’s Joe Burrow and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa.

Pretty good indeed! So basically the only QB’s he’s trailing are both Heisman contenders and will probably be 1st round draft picks. That’s pretty impressive!

Is it possible Trask could be the best QB in the SEC next season??? ‘Donk might just lose his mind!.!.

That thought occurred to me. If CDM plays EJ a lot in the bowl game, preparing for a real QB competition, we will know you are correct.
Oddly, after being abused by Donk and other idiots early on for supporting Trask, I now risk the same abuse for pointing out that he is a terrible runner. He is worse than an average pro style QB. It detracts from the effectiveness of the running game and our offense more than most posters on here will admit.

No he isn’t. Take your hate somewhere else.
