Same people who say "the SEC was down" can't explain how the SEC dominated the other conferences in bowls.

A total of 3 NCs in 12 years(‘90-‘01).

A total of 9 NCs in the the last 13 years, twice with 2 SEC teams playing head-to-head in the final game.

Yes, definitely the same conference.

But yeah, I remember watching those 90’s Independence Bowls with Alabama squeaking by Iowa State and Auburn crushing Army by 3, and just high-fiving all my friends and being overwhelmed with SEC pride. Epic nights.

Again, you can say Spurrier was great while also acknowledging that the SEC was dramatically different at the time and that he had his own struggles with certain teams. They just happened to not be in-conference. Doesn’t diminish the fact that we generally couldn’t beat them and lost several times due to coaching.

He struggled with ONE team. That's it.

Had their been a BCS/playoff system in place in the 90's, the SEC would have won more than 3. The voters hated the SEC and gave them no respect at all. None until the 2006 NC game, in fact.

How? The SEC winner in ‘90 or ‘91 wasn’t winning it all(though we may have had a shot). The SEC winner had a shot at the eventual champ in ‘93, ‘95 and ‘99 but couldn’t get it done. The vols weren’t winning anything in ‘97. And the SEC won it in ‘92 and ‘96.

The BCS debuted in ‘98. It produced on e NC team from ‘98-2003. The conference perception was different because the conference was essentially one team every year within being decided typically in the 3rd week of the season, and an occasional year from Alabama or Ut.

And to be clear, Ox. In his two seasons so far, Mullen has been unable to beat ONE team. The others he's beaten at least once of the two tries. The problem is that team prevents us from going to Atl, so he has to get it figured out or his standard of "championships" will never be met.

If you expect the rest of the Gator Nation to fall in line behind you trashing Spurrier and claiming he was just the result of a down era, you may be disappointed.
Twist what I’m saying all you want, won’t make it true. Spurrier is a HOFer and acknowledging the SEC wasn’t as strong doesn’t detract from that. It’s just a fact. He proved he could still excel in the tougher sec at a worse situation - USC.

Spurrier is the best we’ve ever had for many reasons. First and foremost he made Gator football fun.

That said he would not be as popular around here today. As I often read there is a Gator standard and NC’s is the measuring stick.

EJ is really starting to turn it on in the run game.

I was very impressed with some of his gains vs Missouri. He actually made the line look decent and had the best runs of the day.

You can see his confidence growing clearly now and Dan says he is starting to understand the passing game better.

he’ll only be a redshirt freshman next season and one injury away from starting if/when Franks transfers. I expect EJ will be the one to stay. He’ll be more integrated into the offense next year even if he’s not starting yet and then takes over full time as a RJR in 2021 with AR15 coming in for spots as a RFR. I think Trask is doing fine and will continue to be so next season and I’d hate to see EJ leave before his big chance comes after Trask. But who knows, EJ’s running ability and better understanding of the passing game might reopen the QBs competition in spring.

Weird. They must just be lazy when Trash is on the field or something.

Or perhaps we have a OC he wont afjust to a non-running QB when Trash is onnthe field.

Just maybe.

Jones will be the starter, Franks will move on to what he'll consider bigger and better things, and there will be an offseason competition between Jones and Trask.

Unfortunately for Trask, he's in the same boat as he was in high school, he's a square peg in a round hole when it comes to Mullen's offense.

I think EJ will be very good in Mullen's offense because he's a good fit for it.

For the record, I love the way Trask has slung the ball all over the place this season, we'd easily be a 4 or 5 loss team without him replacing Franks.

I don't hate Franks or begrudge him for moving on, he has to do what's best for him.

The one time I met the kid he was a nice guy and very respectful to everyone around him.

No way Mullen starts Jones over Trask game one next season short of an injury.

just a reminder that Trask was named the starter last year after Franks bad loss to Mizzeri, but he broke his leg and had to miss the remainder of the season.
Very true, but Dan also said he went to Trask to see if he wanted his help in transferring before this season. Imo you dont do that for a guy you envision leading your team long term and changing your scheme around. We'll see, but I think Jones starts.

Mullen never starts a young guy over the previous starter until an injury or something allows it. Jones will still have 2 years left to start if Trask isn't injured in 2020.

This is very true. I worked with a couple of Michigan fans then and had to hear a whole lot of chippiness before the CG about how they “deserved” another shot at tOSU and not UF.
The only thing that topped that game for me was walking in the office the next morning (deliberately late so everyone else was already there). Most of the office was SEC fans (Ugly, Vols, Ole Piss, Bama, LSU, & Arky - it was in Memphis) and when I walked in they were all smiling, but the two Meatchicken fans would not even look up. I said nothing until I got to the door to my office - giving them a sliver of hope as I passed their desks that maybe, just maybe, I’d let it go - and stopped, looking at the two, and said “I guess we can put to bed the idea that the Big 10 belongs on the same field with the SEC.” They just hung their heads while the rest gave them hell. It was glorious.

I absolutely love the Trask story for a couple reasons. One because we can rub it in donkeys face...despite him being my favorite poster he deserves it. Two because damn it’s a great story and 3 because I love a passing offense. But, I hope Jones beats him out. To make mullens system go we need a runner and our receiving corps will be so young and green next year. We need a dual threat and Jones is that guy to bridge us to AR who will be the true test if this is gonna work

If Trask is not the starter next year and we don't make it to Atlanta, Mullen will be on a very hot seat.

Trask is not transferring. This guy has never thought about transferring. Why would he up and change his whole mentality?
