I am interested in how the board thinks our freshmen have played. At tmes, Elam has looked like our best DB. Diabate has had his moments. Copeland seems inconsistent making brilliant catches and missing gimmes. White is coming along. What happened to the Louisiana DB that saw the field before Elam? What else?

Well, obviously, almost none of them have played. A couple have played well, those you listed, mostly in situations with limited roles.

The only other name that comes to mind is Bogle. I've seen him on the field, but haven't seen much one way or the other out of him. He is mostly lining up at SDE though, so he is about 80 pounds too light for that and shouldn't be expected to do much.

Copeland is a redshirt freshman, not a true freshman. You'd expect him to be pretty comfortable and know the play book, especially since our routes and passing plays are very simplistic. He doesn't look comfortable to me. So far, he makes Deonte Thompson look like he has spiderman hands.

I have also seen DB's Hill and Kimbrough playing but I can't really say how well. I don't remember seeing them get beat or anything but that's about it.
Seems like Zipperer has played a little as well but not enough to evaluate.

Is the fact that few freshmen are playing good or bad? Are we building depth or mostly about to lose it to graduation?

You can do math. Are we adding more than losing?

I can’t really add much more as far as freshmen are concerned – but I think it’s fair to note that last year’s class had a crap ton of attrition which is why you don’t see a lot of freshman on the field. The bulk of the class is probably OL and I think OL will be a strength down the line because of last year’s class.

As for a couple non true freshmen who have looked really good: Gouriage and Burney. That 2018 class is going to end up being a really bad class for our roster. We only brought in like 18 kids and I think 4-5 of those kids won’t even get PT.

And we are going to need the next couple classes to be heavy to make up for the attrition of the last class (2019).

We’re going to need to find some transfers as well to cover the gap in total recruits in 2018 and the attrition in the 2019 class.

On another note, linebacker play has been atrocious. I would’ve never foreseen Miller and Houston play as bad as they have.

I’m excited to see last 2 year’s crop of linebackers on the field next year. These upper class guys are terrible.

I’m thinking that a mix of Hopper, Diabate, Pierre, and Chatwood have got to be better.

We may see Wingo in at times as well.

But we desperately need to bring in at least one more linebacker in this 2020 class.

elam has shown some real signs, and while hes still raw and learning, hes probably our best player at the position already

diabetes is as skinny a dude ive ever seen, but he's still making plays. will be interesting to see what he can do once he gets some size and strength to his frame.

Diabate reminds me of a young Karlos Dansby. Rail thin but hits like a ton of bricks.
Ironically enough is from Auburn and wears the same number. I like him a lot, and can't
wait to see how he looks as a sophomore with some added weight. White has helped out
on the interior some, and should be a decent piece to the puzzle next year. I like Bogle
and Elam too , and definitely see them as three year players. As J alluded to earlier we
desperate need help at ILB in terms of impact players. There are plenty of bodies
to sort it out. Just need to find the right guys there.

The 2018 class is very thin on talent. I think Reese Jr is going to be a player, if he gets healthy. Copeland, Pitts, Gouraige, Burney, McPherson, and Emory are going to be the stars from that class. We've already lost 6 from that class (Bleich, Banks, Langham, Watkins, Huggins, and Russell) - which is why we're so thin at Safety and OL. I hope they move Dante Lang to SDE, he can get up to 270+ easily and he's a waste at TE. Chatfield seems like he's already been passed over by some of the 2019 guys. Hopefully he can be a solid rotational player. Piece has potential, he'll probably be the #1 next year unless Davis beats him out. Trey Dean has been a bust, but w/ a position change he may improve. I wish McDowell didn't miss spring practice, he seems behind the 2019 guys too. Clement may end up transferring.

I'd expect to see at least 1 grad transfer this off-season and 1 regular transfer (that hopefully can play right away).

The 2019 class will be much more productive.

Why do you think the problem is talent vs coaching?

If one kid is bad, replace the player, if they all are bad, replace the coach / some important head coach

assuming no transfers or injuries, that’s only 12 kids remaining from a class 2 years ago.

Yeesh.

Clement is crazy athletic. I’d like to see him as a Kick Returner and maybe switch positions to safety or something.

replace Christian Robinson? We need to keep recruiters for right now.

Look, I know its apparently verboten to criticize Dwags around here these days, but what evidence do you have that he is a good recruiter, other than the same Twitter Black Caucus people who thought Willie was the hire of the century?

Because of the OL, the LBs, the DBs, and (smaller) DL guys. I listed the 2018 guys as being less productive.
 Diabate, Big 77 and Elam. I really dont expect much from anyone else.
