A $2.5M e-car from a financially challenged manufacturer that just a few years ago could be had for less money than they now want for a single car.

Beautiful car. Color me ambivalent. I drove a Lotus Evora from 2013-15, mainly to and from the shop.

Other than the Elise and Exige, Lotus has been a disaster in terms of reliability. On the Ferrari forum a pretty wealthy collector had an Evora. He loved it, said when it ran it was the best car he had and he had a lot--F430, Ford GT, some kind of Lambo and I think an NSX. But it spent months in the shop.

I actually had a deposit on an Elise about a year before they were released. Two things happened that made me get my deposit back. An early owner parked his car and got the lower front spoiler stuck on a parking curb. When he backed up it pulled the whole front clam off, $8k repair. Another early delivery was in a grocery store parking lot and a lady in a Navigator literally backed over the front of his car. Totaled it. Oh yeah one more, the guy getting new tires and the shop dropped his car off the lift. Another total loss. Out of the first 100 Elises many were totaled for weird reasons. I got my $ back and bought something else.

My Hyundai Elantra gets 40 mpg highway, gets me from point A to point B and it's paid off. Oh, and the heated seats were awesome during the Cleveland and Boston winters.

It was mainly fit and finish items. Glovebox draw string snapping, the leather dash cover shrinking in the sun, etc. The nearest Lotus dealer was in Orlando, 90 minutes away. I'd no sooner get a laundry list of niggles fixed under warranty and something new would go haywire.

I finally bailed. I'd driven Porsches for years on a daily basis without the aggravation or inconvenience. But it was a superb handling car and very torquey and it had that classic refined British feel. I liked it. Laser blue finish. Turned heads.

The last time I tried contorting my 6-2 linebacker frame into an Elise like a pretzel, I swore never again.

The V6 Cup Exige is a cool car with tons of performance.

Have you had the opportunity to check out the i8?

No, not really, but I am aware they’re depreciating at a fast clip and that BMW plans to discontinue the model. Very avant garde design and good performance specs.

Meant to post this a while ago and forgot. I was at a car show in a little town in Wisconsin this past summer and saw the below Ford Fairlane. May be old hat to a lot of you, but I had never seen a hard top convertible where the whole roof fit in the trunk. The car also had a built in .45 player!

GBM that's called a starliner, VERY complicated system with a pile of relays to operate it, Wasn't the most reliable top out there but impressive when they worked right.

My first car was a 1966 Plymouth Barracuda with the Rallye Pack option, basically a Formula S without the Formula S badging. A prior owner put Formula S badging on it and placed a Barracuda on the front fenders that was totally out of place. I purchased it in 1984.

It is quite possibly the ugliest car ever made.

My dream car is the most beautiful car ever made, the rare 1971 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda convertible

The best car I’ve owned was a 2010 Dodge Challenger Hemi R/T

And yes, I’ve been in a head on collision, unfortunately driving my baby in the snow on my way to work

A little long but very funny and some bad ass rides. Quarter mile times for the GT500 are complete BS as some guys who have actually gotten their cars are running low to mid 10's on a prepped surface at 140mph plus trap speeds on stock tires...the amazing thing is a 4200# car built on the same platform as a rental car is running neck and neck with the worlds best supercars on road courses.....Murica...Now just to find one without huge ADM's....
