A season with no championships is a failed season. I think even Mullen would agree.
Counterpoint 2: Steve Spurrier regularly won the SEC coach of the year but never national coach of the year. That’s ridiculous. He should’ve got it at Florida but he DEFINITELY should’ve gotten it at USC. What he did there was unprecedented.

At the time of signing Mullen was the 6th highest paid coach in the Nation, currently he is the 10th. Now would you say he has shown enough to be the 10th best coach in the NCAA? Do you think he has maximized his talent and opportunity in the two years at UF?

To me there are two completely separate issues there. Did we show our hand, try to be clever on Twitter and likely overpay initially? Yes. But blame Stricklin for that. By the same token, if we'd signed him for 50k and won 7 games, we shouldn't be doing cartwheels at the deal. If guys like Taggart and Muschamp were winning this year, no one would have even known what their buyouts were. The finance part is largely irrelevant.

But to you second point(question), yes. I think he's done a really good job with what he was handed. Review the threads below and notice two common themes. A) Mullen sucks and B) our roster is terrible. To your credit, I did see a post from you saying we should win 9-10 games last year in the regular season or it would be a failure. That wasn't the prevailing thought of most here, at ESPN, or most other places, but I'll give you credit for being consistent in your outlook(though we technically did win that number of games, so you should be satisfied, imo). But again, just look at the projections going into year 1. Some who were saying 7-5 was the ceiling are now claiming 10 wins is nothing. As I said above, there's some pretty ridiculous opinions that simply aren't very well founded. And that can go both ways.

You will see at the end of last season I also gave him I believe a B/B+ (due to the recruiting class being underwhelming)

As I said, your demands were pretty much identical so I give you credit for that. It was impressive as I read it.

Let's hope we can get it to an A+ soon so we can stop having these conversations and talk about more important things. Like your chances at the Wild Card.

Yep, imo he's overachieved, but the fact that he isn't bringing in top 5 classes has the Mullen haters convinced he'll never win anything here. I'm at the point where I'm really pleased with what he's done with the roster we have, but still recognize he needs to do better in recruiting if we're going to get over the 10 win hump and start competing for championships. I'm pretty sure I've seen you say much the same more than once. I think we're realists that understand things need to be improved, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to fail here. Only that he needs to improve recruiting in order to not fail. What separates you, I, and a few others is we aren't seeing doom and gloom over 2 recruiting classes and are willing to give the dude a chance. Some here want Mullen fired immediately because he "can't" recruit. I don't think he's proven he can't recruit yet. I guess the question is, how long of a leash does he get? How long can he survive here without top 5 classes and beating UGA so we can get to the SECCG? We all know you aren't likely to win any NC without going through Atlanta first.

No Wildcard is coming from the NFC East, division is too crappy... so Wentz will be wearing that awful camo dinner jacket to New Years parties since he will be shut down for the third season in a row in January.

Look I lived through the Reid era, so if there's one thing I know it's that my first weekend of Feb is open. I'm just on the fence about whether or not I should go ahead and tell Chief's fans what to expect.

CU-UF, what is worse... having a coach you know if a failure and swinging again. Or hanging on to a coach you know is a good coach, but know you are never going to compete for a title? If you say the later, I hope you never made fun of Georgia for holding on to Mark Richt. With this schedule and in todays environment, 10 wins is like 9 wins 20 years ago... it's 2/3 loss season. That at the end of the day isn't good enough.
You do realize that your opinion does't mean anything. And yet you thrown it out so confidently.

Among the serial, unabashed pumpers, I respect @stephenPE a good deal (even if the lecturing gets a bit much when he wants others to “knock it off with those negative waves”). His positions seem to come from principal and being a genuinely positive person. Perhaps most importantly, even when it goes bad he doesn’t abandon all those principles to backtrack and bash the coach he used to love.

We have other pumpers on here whose views are based on a combination of convolution and idiocy. They are usually the most angry attackers when we finally hit the end of the road with a coach, blaming that former coach for any possible flaw of the current coach, including bashing the recruits the defended two years earlier. It’s like they finally realize that instead of riding a thoroughbred they’ve been bouncing around on the back of a donkey. Only on this board, about 50% of the people had already been yelling “look at that ass out there” and now they are not sure, in retrospect, if we were actually talking about the convoluted idiot. Hint - it was both.

Edited to help out Ox.

I read this three times. Still have no idea what you're talking about.

That doesn't keep you from being my favorite poster.

I agree with Ox this time, just sounds like someone who enjoys listening to himself pontificate.

Thin line between dysfunctional and crazy. IMHO
