My take: Great first half. Our best 20 min, so far. Then Blackshear almost decapitates the guy (announcer agreed with me that he kept his elbows in pretty much) and our inside game and many rebounds go away. But we still win. Their Daily player is one of those watch list players I think. He can score but we blocked a few of his shots too. I am going to completely agree that better ball movement makes us A MUCH better team.

Florida wins 70-62. Made 1 basket in the last 7 minutes of the game. Awful awful awful 2nd half offense
I was curious if KBJ was available tomorrow or does his ejection keep him out of the Miami game?
I did some research (sorry, no linky) and found that he should be able to play; if he had been in a fight and threw a punch, he'd have to sit at least one game. :whew:
Gotta beat those Canes tomorrow!

Just got back from the game.

First, a nice Gator crowd. Met a lot of SC Gators and others that travel. Everyone so frustrated with the team. And for good reason.

First half was great because St. Joes was playing off the Gators and we started to finally drain threes. We were hot when left open.

Second half they tightened up man to man and Im not sure we got a three. Missed several layups and foul shooting was awful. Make those and it remains a blowout.

Gators also continually missed opportunities to push the ball. Several times if the man with the ball looked up, someone was open down the court. It drove us crazy because clearly we were the more athletic team and we should have driven them out of the gym.

When they pulled close, we went to a 1-3-1 pressure and it worked because we were so much quicker. Then is was abandoned..

But what drove me crazy the most was the use of Scottie Lewis. He was clearly the best athlete on the court but he is in the corner on every possession watiing for something but it rarely came because point gaurds just dribble the entire time until something bad happnes.

They need to move the offense through Scotty. He can make plays.

Back tommmorow for the noon start time vs. the Canes.....

Great points - we were saying similar things in here and on Twitter - hard to believe anything will change because it never did last season, but we can hope!

We need your full thoughts on the St. Joe's mascot and his incessant flapping.

I watched Blackshear at Tech, decent but was never overly impressed. When I found out he was transferrring to us and all the hype was going on I just couldn't figure it out. He's decent as a big but that's it.

I'm just now getting to watch the game. That was the worst ejection I've ever seen.

Well I was hoping not to revisit this, but yes, the flapping hawk was simply the oddest thing I have seen at a basketball game. So, I assume this is a thing there. But the mascot, which is a hauntingly creepy version of a hawk with its mouth agape at all times, literally flapped his harms the entire game.

Now when I say literally, yes, the entire game. And not just when the clock was running. At all times.

Yeah, that creepy mother freaking bird just hung out behind the bench at timeouts flapping.

And during the what, 8 min ref review of the elbow to the face, yeah, that thing was just flapping

So damn bizarre. You know how mascots go on the floor, goof around with each other.....not that hawk thing, it just FLAPPED..... Seriously, Albert was like, I ain’t going near that freaky mother F@cker...

You know when St. Joes cut it to two and their fans, as few as they were, were into it? The mascot....just flapping away....I cant imagine this is good for that poor idiot in the costume whose rotator cuffs will be shredded to bits by mid season...

At one point we were begging it to stop...just stop the flapping

Anyway, this thing will haunt my dreams for days to come....

:lmao2::lmao2::lmao2:

At any point did it appear that a relief pitcher came in? It’s insane that one person could continue flapping their arms for that long.

I just want to know if the flapping was more pronounced when they did something well.

According to Wikipedia:

The Hawk is the mascot of Saint Joseph's University. The Hawk represents the University's motto, "The Hawk Will Never Die", by flapping its wings non-stop (even during halftime) throughout every basketball game. The Hawk, who has been flapping his wings since 1956, is one of the most decorated mascots in college sports, having been called the best college mascot by ESPN College Basketball Magazine, Sports Illustrated, and The Sporting News.

No. We we looking for that. That thing did not move off the one spot near the bench. It was not out there during halftime.
At one point I wondered if the arms were mechanical. But they moved sideways to avoid hitting a player. I mean, who wants that job?

WHAT??? the best mascot? That thing needs to die. I’m pretty tuned into sports and I assure you I have never heard of this flapping monstrosity. Again,it was not cool or wow. It was awkward.
