|We obviously don't do well following a bye. BTW, this was our 3rd bye of the season. Well, the good news is that at least we won 6 games & qualify for a bowl.

I'm having a very hard time understanding why we aren't cleaning up on Florida's top recruits. We're the flagship university. The one shining beacon of decent football this year surrounded by shambles. Let's go, dammit.

You realize that there are only 2 5 stars in the state of Florida (dont count IMG) and both are going to Clemson. Other than that we have 12 4 stars versus 8 for Miami and FSU. I am sure the FSU number is going to go down. So we are "winning" the state. It's hard to compete against Clemson, Bama and Ohio State until we are on par facility wise with them as well as show a consistent product on the field.

Honestly, it depends on whether or not you think Diaz is the guy. If there’s any doubt, it may have been better to bottom out and perhaps kill this experiment early. As it is, one of those wins is a narrow victory over Central Michigan. So it looks like McElwain may have finally done us a favor.

This loss probably won't affect their recruiting much. Horrible campus and terrible facilities. Kids that want to go there just buy into the 305 bullcrap. They haven't been relevant since Davis was there.

It’s the one place that when we lose a prospect because they choose to go there, I immediately assume it was probably a good thing as we didn’t want them. It’s nearly impossible to make any kind of compelling argument for going to um at this point.

Or... how about this. We get assistants that can recruit their way out of a paper bag.

Im not saying there cant be improvement on staff for recruiting, but lets also be reasonable. Lets see, on one hand you have Clemson, coach has been there over 10 years with a majority of the same staff. That's 10 years of building relationships with high school coaches, seeing recruits from 8th grade on. A palace of a football facility and the last 5+ years of success on the field. On the other hand you have a coaching staff just finishing their 2nd full year, with a program with marginal facilities, only 2 years removed from a 4-7 season, and just now getting to know high school coaches and programs. So really, being realistic without your Orange and Blue glasses, that is a pretty hard sell for even the best recruiter. Yes, they need to start winning a few of those 5 star battles, I'm just not sure it all boils down to assistants

Because teams with larger recruiting “budgets” are raiding the state. Bama, Clemson, UGA, OSU, etc. This ain’t the good old days when the best teams in Florida got the best recruits. Like Spurrier said (paraphrasing), scholarships are just worth more at Bama (and UGA, Clemson, etc).

Sure, Our section 8 housing doesn't help. And there aren't any plans to improve it. In the mean time we wait for the all-in-one to be completed in 2022? That's a helluva wait and I that doesn't open the floodgates unless we have closers on the staff. Guys that can sell the sizzle not the steak. Facilities alone don't recruit for you.
Maybe we can do it the slow way. Get a little better each year. But why? It doesn't have to be that way.

It does have to be that way as long as CDM is the coach.

FSU's facilities aren't that much better than ours. Miami's sure as sh!t aren't better than ours. Hell you've got to drive 45 minutes just to get to their 3/4 empty stadium. And of course FSU fans don't show up at the least hint of suckatude. I've been to games at that stadium many times when they were actually good. The experience doesn't come close in comparison to the Swamp.

I'm not talking stars. I'm talking top 100 players in the state. Looking at Scout we have 10 of the top 100. FSU has 13. Miami has 13 also. No excuse for that.

Actually there are plans to build a new residence hall for football (and other athletes). I only know this because my son’s dorm is slated to be demolished for it.

We are third or fourth in Mississippi though.
