Please tell me who is handwringing about the UF/LSU "rivalry". There has never been an LSU rivalry. We didnt used to play them at all. They were just leftovers and we got stuck w them.

Our rivalry was with Barn.

Well, in fairness, it's mostly the Auburn/UGA & UA/UT - even though that 'rivalry' has become a joke. I don't think there's much love lost between UF & LSU and both would be fine to see it changed.

I'm all for doing away with divisions. I say it all the time, but it's a travesty that there are players who will go their entire careers without having played other SEC teams because of the scheduling.

Totally agree. LSU isn’t a rival just because we play them every year. Nothing in common with them.

I have no idea why UT and LSU would be our permanent opponents. For example Florida has played Kentucky annually since 1967.

Auburn is our oldest rival, but the SEC gave us lsu as our permanent cross-division rival because of uga. Mizzou is in the East because of bamuh. There’s plenty of politics involved.

We dont want to be a one loss team though and have to wait for a vote to see if 1 loss UF or 1 loss Bammer gets to play undefeated LSU in the SECCG. I dont like our odds. We could get frozen out even after beating Ugly.

I get that some years it makes sense, instead of a 3 loss Butters or Mizzu.

I'm sure there will be plenty of tiebreakers that don't involve voting.

It would be interesting to work in some sort of semifinal at the end by moving game 8 around, as long as 1 and 2 would not be required to face a team they’d already defeated in the semifinal. In the SECCG all bets are off, of course.

I am all for these changes as well.

Let's be honest, UF and Auburn have gotten stuck with the toughest schedules year in and year out due to having their permanent cross division team being LSU and Georgia respectively yet neither team has complained much during the last 20+ years.
Interesting that once the rotations negatively impact other schools suddenly there is a desperate need to address this and address it now. The urgency is due in part to the fact that eventually UGA may actually have to play the best teams in the west, something they have only dabbled in this century.
Again, I agree with the changes because UF can't help but get some relief and get a chance to actually play other teams in the conference versus SCAR and Vandy every year.
What I will enjoy watching is how the conference pulls this off while simultaneously ensuring that Bama gets to play precisely who they want to play each year.

Saw something on Saturday Down South last week that said the SEC was looking at a new scheduling model again. The format they mentioned would be 3 constant opponents and then the other 10 would rotate so you saw everyone twice every four years. I would assume our constant would be Tenn, LSU and UGLY.

Curious at how the 3 constants would play out for everyone as the top teams are easy to assign, but the bottom feeders would be stuck with each other.

I like it but I will miss the easy wins @ Tenn, Vandy & KY.

If we are redoing the schedule why don't we scrap the SEC Champ game? What is the benefit today? Stretch our schedule out so that on "championship Saturday" all 14 SEC teams are playing each other. Steal the spotlight when there are only 4 other games that day.

I’ve said this on other threads. Since we know the college playoff is going to expand, get rid of the SEC Champ game. Each team plays each other, and hope the top two teams make the playoffs.

Can’t do it with 14 teams though. I say drop Mizzou, Arkansas, Vandy, and TAMU

Weeks ago, right before our AU game, I saw on ESPN a proposal of three permanent opponents in what the author called "pods". Kind of the same idea as mentioned above. Our three would be UGA (of course), Vols, and, of all schools, SC, because they are the closest to us geographically. He gave the three for each school. For example, Bammer would have AU, Vols, and LSU. Dogs would have us, AU, and Vols.

You'd still rotate among the other schools home and away every 4 or 5 years. The author didn't have divisions. At the end, #1 would play #2, and they would have to have an extensive list of tie-breakers to get those two teams if three teams had the same records.

I'm just a dumb country boy, but seems to me if you're going to overhaul the scheduling, why not just drop the East/West thing completely and the permanent opponents and make everybody rotate everybody to make it an actual rotation that's logical and fair to everyone? Also, make sure nobody ends up with a schedule like this:

Arky
Vandy
SC
UK
Miss
MSU
Mizzou
UT

I think they could get away with just one permanent opponent to make sure Georgia-Florida and Bama-Auburn type games aren't messed with.

You’re forgetting bamuh-tinerc, bamuh-lswho, UF-tinerc and barn-uga. What about MSU-ole miss and lsu-ole miss? There are a few schools with multiple rivals. There will be a LOT of pushback.

True -they might need 2 permanent opponents to get anything accepted.
