Had nothing to do with partying. We were already down some DL and LB starters heading into that game and then lost two or three more in the first half. We ended up having to play a walk on MLB in the second half and ND just kept handing off to the Bus and he ran right through those poor guys. It was brutal.

We lost two in the pregame meal, got into fight and Spurrier cut their asses.

I remember it exactly that way. I was at the game. I was just taking a shot at the grand pooh bah. I always said it was our 3rd string LB corp playing the 2nd half. Maybe our walkona was 3rd string. Hell, our bowl game was beating fsu. Oddly enough we only lost to Syracuse and ND. Ugh.

Yep, I was there, too. My buddy Greg Diamond was a MLB taking on Bettis. Man, that wasn’t a favorable matchup!

Pretty sure the incident you're referring to was '94 fsu in the Sugar Bowl. Hambrick broke a glass over a player's(Anthony Riggins, I think) face.

SOS stubbornly tried to throw deep into 7-8guys in coverage while Bettis made us look like kids trying to tackle a St. Bernard. Maybe one of SOS’s worst showings as a HC. I think he learned from it.

Ohhh yeah, that'll be a hot ticket for sure. I'd break out my St. Augustine Church "Catholic Gators" t-shirt for that one. It might earn me a reprieve from stuff being thrown at me and whatnot.

I see that the stadium holds about 77,000, but couldn't find any info on how many seats are reserved for their visitors allotment.

We might be seeing Notre Dame earlier than expected. I've seen some bowl projections have us facing off against them this year.

When UGA went there in 2017, there were tons of Doggies there. They bought out every ticket they could find. Those who went that I know said that the ND fans were the most courteous and friendly hosts they've ever had at an away game.

Well that's nice to hear. I therefore withdraw my earlier crack about stuff potentially being thrown at me.

On the one hand I'd really love to see a game at a literal football shrine like Notre Dame Stadium. But on the other, outside of attending the game, a trip to South Bend, Indiana doesn't really appeal to me much.

ND fans are all extremely welcoming. I've always been rooting for them when I've gone, but there's nothing like the jawing you'll see in the SEC...especially when it's a team they don't play often.

But outside of a beautiful campus and checking out the tailgate scene, there really isn't much of anything to do in South Bend. The bars are decidedly blah--and one of the main ones in town is owned by (of all things) a Vol fan. Chicago is a much better place to spend the rest of the weekend.

Yeah you are correct, before that one. Before the Notre Dame Sugar Bowl we lost a lineback or our top DT due to a scooter accident. He was hit by a girl from my high school

Hambrick was thrown off the team. I think he ended up transferring to South Carolina.

Ok, yeah, that one I did not know about. I just remember 78's post about ND not belonging in a bowl being the mantra in the weeks leading up to the Sugar. Literally must've heard it 100 times. I have no doubt that it permeated our locker room and had an impact. Bettis was great, but we looked as ill prepared as I can remember under Spurrier. If I recall correctly, he even addressed it later and admitted that he'd probably allowed the team to celebrate the moment too much beforehand.

Yep, was a badass linebacker.

His brother (also played for the Cowboys and Cardinals) and him used to be in the Tampa area... met them through the owner of a local WingStop on Fowler Ave in the mid 00s

Still one of the best overall individual plays I've ever seen in that '94 uga game.

Okay, I may be getting the brothers Hambrick mixed up. I thought the one that got booted was a linebacker. The other was a running back, wasn’t he?

No, you're correct. Darren was the LB that got booted from us. I don't recall what position his brother played.

When I lived in Memphis, Tinerc played a game at ND. I knew several Vols who went and to a person they said the Irish fan were the friendliest they had ever seen. Just a bunch of nice folks apparently.

Frankly, I don't remember our defense ever looking prepared except when we had Stoopsey. I was always nervous and expecting the worst when Zook, Pruitt and Hoke were running the show.

EDIT: add John Thompson to that list. I forgot about that shytshow.
