Well, we initially were going to run a screen, but noticed that the defense was playing man coverage on Jefferson. So we shifted to have Perine become a decoy through play action and pick up any potential blitzes. Then we had Jefferson change his route to more of an intermediate slant where he could shake the safety who was obviously a mismatch for his talents while the Linebackers took just a step to counter the potential run threat, eliminating them from pass defense support. By Perine’s faking toward the Left Tackle, thus drawing attention left, a pass window opened up, which Trask exploited perfectly. Hammond and Swain did a nice job of down field blocking and Van used his speed to slip past the defenders and race to the end zone. It scored 6 points.
