This is very common. You should have seen the visitors list for LSU at Bama this year, it was a 'who's who' of top HS talent in the 20, 21, 22, and 23 classes. I think these kids enjoy seeing all the other talented kids and feel special that they were invited to be among the group. Yes, the individual attention is lost a bit, but the staff knows who the key targets are and make the time to chat w/ them, especially if the parents are there. There are so many staffers these days that they are able to show them a good time. Also, only 6 or so were on 'official visits', the others were on unofficial's - so there's a limit to what they can do if only on an unofficial. Honestly, I think it was quite impressive to have that much talent there (there was a 2021 5-star DL from Alabama there - vs. going to the Iron Bowl).
I also get a zillion kids wanting to see Bama-LSU or UF-Auburn. I was a little surprised so many wanted to see us play FSU this season.

If you're playing at home. Charts a little out of date but it serves my purpose. I see 14 Sr's gone. Plus Franks and Krull. CJ Henderson s going to declare. Who else from the JR class goes? Grimes maybe but seriously anybody else?
So we are down maybe 18 bodies and my understanding is that we are at 78 scholies. 78 - 18 =60
That means 25 would at least put us at 85 on NSD. MInus whichever other bums transfer.

Fair question...3.

I know that. I’m referring to the current staff riding back to back 10 win seasons, dominating W’s over our in state rival 2 years in a row and both major in state programs (FSU, UM) being in the gutter. You’d think they could pull one 5 star.

The previous staff sucked in all phases of the game (on & off field) and the HC was a goof ball. Recruiting sucking under him was not a surprise.
Why would recruits care about 10 win seasons and beating rivals? That stuff doesn't mean as much as we think. Kids like money and gifts. Next on the list is NFL opportunities and early playing time. 2 of those things we offer. Not so sure about the other 2.

Blue chip kids are national recruits. Every team in America is after them. They don't care about us beating a lowly FSU team. We have to do more to appeal to the kids of today.

Speculation that Slaton, Campbell, Wilson, & Davis could all declare. Also, that chart still shows Edwards (who's just got arrested at CMU) and Huggins. TOS says we can take as many as 28 and still have room for a couple of transfers.

EDIT: we also lost Bleich

I think you got to pay $$$ to get a 5*. Or land them on the rebound from the Transfer portal. Heck, Greenard should have been considered a 6* Star for the 2019 class.

You make some good points but the truth of the matter is we’ve been deficient in several of those areas for a decade (money & facilities) and while our coaching staff doesn’t have control over those areas, Muschamp always pulled some 5 stars. He did this despite a poor on-field product so I don’t think it’s asking too much for a new staff to also pull at least one 5 star kid.

I’m not expecting them to pull half a dozen 5 stars in light of facilities/money issues but 1 isn’t asking too much. The fact they haven’t is indicative of staff issues (laziness, being inept recruiters, etc.) rather than other reasons, IMO.

And for those keeping score at home, 1 is IMG (shouldn’t even count as a “Florida” product) and the other two are going to Clemson. It has nothing to do with our in-state peers. How we stop Bama, Clemson, UGA, LSU, OSU, and others from raiding our cookie jar is the real concern.

Edit: It’s still ridiculous too. How is Wingo not a 5*? Everyone is drooling over that kid. HHe’s dominating camps. He’s also not committed to Bama, UGA, or Clemson. I’d like to see a break down of rankings pre vs post commitment. I’d bet anything that those three schools (plus OSU) see more kids pick up a 5th star after they commit than all others combined.

19? That sounds wrong. Regardless, we'll probably be slightly more talented overall next year. And yeah, I expect us to take a step back next year, but we also have a really soft schedule. We won't be elite, but we should still manage to go 10-2 or maybe drop one we shouldn't and go 9-3.
Broken record. The schedule should guarantee 10 wins and we win a game we shouldn’t and go 11-1. Never lose a game we shouldn’t. Those days are over. We have a competent coach.

How many are in Florida this year?

Fair question. It looks like there are 3 in Florida.

You’re right about the out of state schools pulling the 5 stars but we have the chance to also pull 5 stars from nearby surrounding states. Are UF coaches trying to lock down the state of Florida? I don’t know, I still believe a kick butt recruiter could pull at least one 5 star (be it from Fl, GA, the Carolinas) but maybe not.

Has Slaton even played that much? I know he's got good size, but I thought he didn't get many snaps a game.

8 of the 26 are from the SE. We’ve discussed the Florida 3. Georgia has 4 and Clemson, LSU, UGA, and Stanford account for those kids. SC has the other one and he’s uncommitted but his list is as expected.

Clemson is public enemy #1 in my opinion. They’ve basically taken FSU’s role - dominate a weak conference and sell top end kids an almost guaranteed shot every year. Plus, they’re investing more than just about anyone.

Eh, competent coaches lose games they shouldn't often enough. Injuries, youth, and just plain bad luck are all factors. How many undefeated seasons do Meyer and Saban have?

Not sure if this was mentioned already. The Clemson site said that Arian Smith is no longer considering them. He's down to UGA, Bama, and us. I think he's the one that wants to run track, so we may have a shot. Also, it looks like Henderson is the last offensive skill playing they are going after, but they don't feel solid with him.
