One of the funniest parts of the stoops stuff to me is all the noles on social media referring to him as “BGB” as they drool over the possibility of him being their next coach. I believe he earned that moniker with his penchant for losing big games not winning them.

Coley would be awesome. Never been a head coach, labeled a great recruiter at FSU but didn’t do much at Miami, and was a disaster as Miami’s OC. Probably got Golden fired himself. We can’t be this lucky.

The 247 fsu guys are all Norvell at the moment as he is the next logical choice to them. It may be a while since his agent is Sexton. After doing some research, I noticed Norvell's recruiting isn't good even by AAC standards and he has no ties to Florida. More and more, I'm hoping they pull the trigger on Norvell.

Yeah, there are alot of posts in this thread and it's practically impossible to keep up. But I posted this yesterday:

Recruiting Acumen
Norvell does have experience as a recruiting coordinator from his time at Tulsa and Pittsburgh.

The Tigers, under Norvell, have typically been one of the higher-ranked teams in recruiting rankings within the AAC. Norvell’s recruiting footprint has been regional, with an emphasis on Tennessee (obviously), Mississippi, Alabama and other states in the Southeast. He’s also been active in going after JUCO players.

His top-ranked class at Memphis is 56th (2017)

And that was from a 247 article pumping him up.

memphis has been one of the better crootin AAC schools for a while, because its one of the only AAC schools that anyone knows or cares about. that's not really because of norvell and was the case before he arrived. at best you could say hes maintained the status quo. if the suckholes hire him, lets hope that trend continues

If it is Norvell, it is a solid hire but a gamble for them. I would classify him exactly like Frost... and we see how that is working out.

Just reading through comments on twitter Norvell wasn’t the hire most fans were hoping for. Even if he’s a good coach it’s a huge letdown for them.

I couldn't help myself and had to look it up. Looks like he is the WR coach at Montana. Quite the step up for him. Went from us to Washington to UTEP to Montana.

He Peter Principle'd at UF. He got fired by his old boss at Washington, didn't coach one year....and is now right back where he started (his alma mater, and first coaching job). He made enough money at UF ($1.8 million contract) & Washington ($350k/year x 2) to secure a good future. He also had a few years as a player in the NFL (making a few starts during the strike season - 87 maybe?). He's probably making less than $100K at Montana (the head coach barely makes $300K).

I think the have finished #5, #2, #5, #2 in conference the last 4 years.

Edit - the are sitting 5th this year, and had #2, #6, #2 the 3 previous . One of the #2s was a pretty big class.

I assume UCF had the top recruiting classes most years in that conference. Not sure how well he'd recruit at fsu, but Norvell did recruit at Memphis better than any of his predecessors. I'm really hoping Ole Miss outbids fsu for him. He's a good coach with a really good offensive scheme.

Back channels

I am still AWOL sadly and lots of good topics I wish I could add to, but I happen to be in a very related area right now and feel confident in what and from whom I heard this. Norvell is going to be the coach of the :nole::nole::nole::nole: and that Memphis would like to take a stab at Huge Freeze.

Maybe I'm a minority here but I think Norvell is actually a good hire and POTENTIALLY could be a great hire. I'm just saying given the clown show it's been so far Norvell seems pretty solid to me

him or kiffin was the best they were ever gonna do, regardless of who else was in the market. so on that front, yes, i agree. would have rather seen slowdell or some nothing schlub, but its still dumpster diving and im cool with that

Ole Miss needs to sneak in there and offer more money!

Memphis would be full circle for Freeze. Back when I lived there in the early to mid 2000's he was the coach at Briarcrest Christian School.

That was the school that Michael Oher was in right? Freeze was his coach as I understand it. Wonder if he banged that white lady who adopted him :scratchchin:

That's the one. And he parlayed that into an assistant job at ole Miss. Greg Hardy played on that team as well and they won a state title.

As for your other question, I doubt Leigh Ann Tuohy would stoop that low. (Though it wouldn't surprise me if ol Hugh tried.)

EDIT: I just realized you meant Oher. And I doubt that one too.
