I found this really cool 2003 Jeep Wrangler X that I bought a few days ago to use around town and to go on the state forest trails. The guys I bought it from gets these old Wranglers in and totally guts them and redoes them. I love the manual transmission. Just figured I’d share.

Nice find. Any mods planned for the future? Not that it needs any for what you're using it for but keep the thread updated when/if you do.

That is a good find. Those things keep going up in value as demand far outstrips supply. Only drawback is if it a 4 cylinder motor instead of the 6 cylinder. Those little engines can't seem to get out of their own way. Congrats!

mehhh... the Wrangler 2.5s had 140 HP, thanks to much better FI. A 70s CJ with a straight six had 110-150 (depending on the year) and even a 305 v8 had 150 with all the quirks of a carb. They got around ok. (FWIW the late straight 6 has 180 hp).

The problems come when people try to stick giant tires under them to prove their testosterone.

ALL the military Jeeps were much smaller 4 cyls and had carbs. Very low HP.

My Dad always wanted one. The WWII version's engine was called the "go devil" which sounds cool but it would be too slow to take on a highway today. I looked it up...60hp. Still super cool. I wish I had one. It was a brilliant piece of engineering, perfectly suited for the task. Nothing like the over-engineered, over-expensive, over-complicated, over-sized, and over-weight stuff contractors sell our military today. It was the essence of form following function. You could take the headlight and pivot it to shine into the engine compartment so you could see to work on it at night. The windshield wiper was hand operated. It had everything it needed and nothing it didn't need.

Alex.

4.0 6cyl. is my guess. Looks great. Perfect for Biolab Rd or Blackpoint if you're ever near the space coast.

With 4.89 or 5.83 those old military jeeps weren’t going fast. Torque for crappy roads. But errbody wants to put a v8 in em ;)
Besides the M37 was better than the old willy …..
