Well to be fair, Moss somehow got a staph infection that was hindering his weight gain. There were stories published that Zook & staff thought he was just lazy, but when Urban arrived, they had the medical staff run some tests and found the problem. When we won it all in 2006, Moss was an absolute beast. Don't remember his weight, but the dude was nowhere close to skinny.

Careful... criticizing Zook to @ltraz is dangerous... especially when it touches on S&C...

Isn’t Z playing SDE? Pretty sure Greenard and Moon are to two main WDE/Buck guys.
he's basically forced to play it because someone has to and the rest are even smaller.

it is the same as #88 being forced to play inside when he's also a weak-side defensive end / buck.

we feature the buck on the pass rushes. in the offseason there were a lot of comments about zuniga moving the box but it really can't happen especially with the depth issues.

Conliffe could be playing SDE. Jonnathan Bullard is really what you want. Prototypical.

Make no mistake about it we played an atrocious offensive line yesterday. They wouldn't even have been good as a directional school. We are going to get destroyed up front by competent SEC lines, I fear.

I asked that too and apparently speed is the biggest concern if you move a Buck to LB.
Our Buck isnt a Saban Buck/Jack. it's just a defensive end with his hand in the dirt.

there's really nothing linebacker like about that position. have to have different instincts, reads, foot work. youre just one-on-one versus a tackle at buck. there's really nothing similar to playing linebacker.

Good to know. I worried when the Mobile Press-Register was that Bama's starting Buck weighed 293#.

actually perhaps "really weak" is too strong wording.
he is certainly less weak than the other bucks and ends. when I noticed him last year he was usually holding his own, not getting driven by the tackle, but didn't really control gaps well.

yeah we are far smaller than any other SEC line. far smaller.

also Saban legitimately switches between three men and four men looks, so did chimp and sidehat and their bucks must be prepared to play linebacker.

Ours are truly just defensive ends in a weird four man front. youd think we could get away with playing bigger guys since ours don't have to worry about linebacker duties.

not sure if the super lightweight thing is by design or it's just the kids we can get dont get taken by the good teams. Grantham has not always played this is very lightweight defense. Greenard didn't play Buck at Loovulle, he played outside linebacker.
