We open against Liberty Friday night at 7pm.

Last season was just an absolute chokefest. 4 run leads were basically nothing as you never knew when a headcase would come in and throw the game away.

Sounds like Hunter Barco will be our Ace and start tomorrow. Hopefully he can find some dominance and bring in a lot of opening wins for us. He is a consensus pre-season All-American.

The big question for me is, "Do we have the arms to get back to the CWS?" Sounds like our most successful Freshman in scrimmages has been Pierce Coppola who is a 6'8 lefty. Two of our main relievers, Pogue and Nesbit, are out until March as they are recovering from the Tommy John surgeries that ended their season last year.

I would also love to see Jud Fabian have the incredible season he was supposed to have last year. Hopefully he worked on his swing a little bit so that he isn't striking out every other at-bat.

Anyway, a lot of unknowns, for me anyway as I haven't really studied-up. hopefully we get something better than what we got last year. Go Gators!

A baseball thread gets started the day before the season starts? We need to take lead from the “one month till spring football starts” thread. We’re neglecting probably our lone bright spot in sports! (Sorry women’s basketball/softball)

Yeah I am ready for some college baseball! It seems a lot of underclassmen pitchers are going to have to perform at a very high level or we will be in a lot of slugfests. Getting Fabian back was a pleasant surprise and the talk is they will use him as a leadoff hitter instead on a middle of the line up HR threat. I like it conceptually as changing his role should encourage him to cut down on the SO's and start lashing some line drives and become a table setter and run scorer. The rest of the line-up is strong and very experienced so scoring runs and playing defense should not be a problem. As always success starts up the middle and relies on dominant pitching. I did not realize Liberty is a top twenty team. You have to credit Sully with putting UF into a difficult early season schedule. He learns a lot in those early competitive out of conference games.

I'm guessing sometime during the season, FF will squabble about the team and coaching and walk out of some games because he doesn't deem it good baseball like when he said he walked out during a game a few years ago when we were up 10-0 and our pitcher was one a 2 hitter and he deemed it too boring of baseball cause we weren't doing the hit and run enough had had hit 3 HRs during the game.

You don;t have to wait for me, just ask @Bullag8r and he will tell you as a game manager and a teacher of fundamentals, Sully sux. There is a reason why teams like UT, ARK, etc. are passing us by in the SEC. Look at last year, preseason Top 3 and was total garbage. Have little hopes for the team this year. Maybe I will be surprised, but doubt I will be able to make any games this year (family) so you won;t have to worry about me walking out if I never walk in.

@FireFoley do you think Sully will be let go this year if we don't at least get to the CWS? Mullen let go, MW rumored to have been told he won't be retained(you can see it by his very down demeanor worst body language than ever), so will Sully complete the trifecta? Could very well happen with Strick under the gun to produce for the athletic department as referenced by the huge hiring of Napier and him defying the odds of amassing a huge coaching and support staff.

No. On paper this is not a CWS team, but it is baseball so anything can happen. And besides everyone thinks,Sully, Strichnine included, is some kind of genius b/c he has gotten to the CWS a lot. But many will tell you that when they get there they have always played substandard ball, except for 2017. I have little hope. And every year we have one big name pitcher who is suppossed to be incredible and they end up sucking. The latest 2 were Dyson and Leftwich. Let's hope it is not Barco this year. But FWIW Sproat has sucked since he arrived and he was as highly touted as Barco.

Also let me know when we get a real 1B and 3B

Sad but true. Sully does not teach offensive fundamentals. He is all in on the major league model of home run or strike out. He won't be fired unless they find child porn in his office.

That was a nice win last night but man... It could just be Sullivan experimenting like he always does before SEC play, but I couldn't help but feeling thay it felt eerily similar to last year's games when we were up 7-0 late and suddenly runners are filling the bases up for the opposing team and the lead disappears.

Probably about 20 games too early to say what we've got of course but I would have loved to see our bullpen completely shut things down.

Positives were that Barco showed us why he is our Ace tonight. I don't think he had any hits or walks until like the 6th inning and he struck out the first 5 guys he went up against.

Sterling Thompson kept getting better and better last year and last night hit two 420ft-or-so shots to center field including a grand slam. One of our best hitters last year as a freshman and now he looks like he has the power too. Also looks jacked compared to the pencil thin look he had going on last year. Time to get another win tonight. Go gators !

Our pitchers with the exception of the ace Barco and mid-week starter Milchin are all very young. All three of the relievers threw their first competitive pitch last night. Manning gets the start today and he is a true sophomore with another true freshman going Sunday. I suspect we will get a lot of looks at other relievers today and tomorrow. Don't know what the deal is with Brandon Sproat as he is/ was highly touted and has produced nothing while here. Thompson is a pure hitter and may become special this season. Rivera need to be hitting out of the 8 hole to hide his K's, good gracious son put the bat on the ball.

Hey I’m taking it as a positive that Napier threw out the first pitch at both the softball and baseball games and we won both; good omen.
