I have my doubts about Cags ever pitching again also at the next level. However, he could find the guru pitching coach that teaches him a pitch he doesn’t have yet. With his arm you never know. Like Waldrep’s splitter, Riveras crazy cutter, Venezuelas screwball, something like those.

He shouldn’t lose a wink of sleep if he never pitches again, his bat and glove should make him an All Star for years. What a treat to watch every home game live this year with Cags. He was also usually the last to leave after signing, taking photos, after every game. I still can’t believe the bomb he hit over the scoreboard, think it landed in Hawthorne.

Nick Kurtz at 1B actually went ahead of Cags at #4. Stupid and outrageous. The A's are morons.

Neely drafted in 3rd round and Jameson drafted in 10th round. Though both still have eligibility remaining, I expect Neely to go for sure and I would guess Jameson will also. I kind of equate Jameson to Michael Byrne though not quite as effective in college. I think Byrne was drafted in like the 14th round but he had clearly peaked and left. I kind of feel like that about Jameson as he did improve as the season went along.

I can think of a couple… coincidentally, they also involve wood and balls.

Slater drafted in the 18th round. Shelton drafted in the 20th round as a draft eligible SOPH. Slater has one year remaining but I expect him to leave as his season was awful given his experience. He seemed to be going in the wrong direction. I expect Shelton to return. With 2 years still available I doubt he takes the 50 Bux and Ham Sammich signing bonus that the 20th round offers.

Ty Evans went undrafted (not surprised) and posted that he was returning.

News stories say teams were skeptical of Cags because of his chase rate even though he greatly lowered his strike outs. Meaning he successfully hit bad pitches??? Also, he hot too many ground balls ( guess the scouts never met FireFoley). Any comments from the knowledgeable?

This is accurate, and I also wonder how much signability mattered. There is no wage scale, so he could negotiate more than those taken ahead of him. That leverage reduces each pick.

As to the chase rate, he always has some, but this year he had to and I think the scouts did not adjust for that reality. The only other hitter over .300 was Ty Evans. If Cags didn't hit, the team didn't score. Walks weren't enough either. He had to swing at anything he could get a bat on.

Cags going 6th was outrageous, with even another first baseman going ahead of him. He's going to make them regret that.
