The money is not for NIL, it's for revenue sharing. The players are going to get salaries paid by the school and that will still be supplemented by NIL deals that are not paid directly by the school.
^what he said...I wrongfully put it the NIL pile but its actually exactly as stated above...Revenue Sharing

Okay, but not possible until NIL with some entity then saying "it's okay to pay players after all", in effect, right? Why didn't they just let Universities pay athletes in the first place since that's what NIL was all about.

It depends on which "they" you are talking about.

The NCAA didn't choose to allow NIL, the Supreme Court told them that they had to. In this new scenario of revenue sharing (direct payments), the NCAA is settling a separate suit against them.

If the "they" you are referring to is the courts, they only respond to what's in front of them.

That's just what it's going to take to keep up with the Jones'

"What are we talking about ... 50 teams that will be able to compete?" said Jason Montgomery, a veteran sports law attorney at Husch Blackwell.

It's been inevitable for years. Revenue sharing is just the next step after NIL. And some fools argued NIL would bring parity. Nope. Just the rich getting richer. I have no problem with that being that we are one of the rich teams. But 50 teams is about right. I doubt you can list 50 teams that truly belong in "Div I". I'll spot you the entire SEC and BIG *. That's 34. Maybe 5 from ACC + ND gets you to 40.
I've always thought four, 12-team conferences would be perfect but dividing them up geographically would be difficult. But then I'd also go back to an 11-game regular season and the four conference champs in a playoff. (nice and tidy for my OCD).
