Wasn't it a vastly different landscape when McElwain had his first two years? Georgia was far below what they are now. Plus, I think while Jim did go 10-4 in 2015 he only won 9 in 2016. Although, I believe that was because of a hurricane that caused one of the games to be cancelled. Even still, those teams felt vastly worse than the teams we've had the last two years.

Spurrier was an all time great but he was also fortunate that his primary nemesis was out of conference. I get what you're saying w/ the $4 million salary for the head coach, that's doable for a Rutgers. But the $7.7 million assistant salary pool is outrageous, even for a low, low tier B10 school w/ the B10 money.

You'd have to pay competent people 50% more just equal the money they'd make elsewhere, and then you'd have to pay them more because it was NJ.

I personally wouldn't live in NJ if they tripled my salary. Im sure Im not the only one.

If we paid Robinson the going rate (vs. $90k) it would vault us into the top 10 easily. Honestly, we're keeping up - now - in salaries. It was true under Butters, but anyone (law) b*tching now is just b*tching for the hell of it. The LSU, Clemson, Alabama, and Ohio State salaries are a little out of whack - mostly because that's what they do and because they've chosen to pay two coordinators HC salaries. Orgeron makes less than Mullen, so they can afford to pay the bigger coordinator salaries. If we lose Grantham this offseason I doubt the new guy makes much more than $1 million/year, so that should give us extra to boost Robinson, Turner, etc.
