As I recall he didn’t hold up his hands, he held up one hand, I’m pretty sure it was his right hand. And it wasn’t a peace sign, just an open palm, like some kind of transcendental symbol while he ran for hours in a trance like state.
Yes you're correct. It wasn't so much a peace sign as it was an open palm.

But it was still both hands held above his head. I remember seeing him quite a bit during that time frame.
