Just a troubled kid who needs to be stabilized. Urbs will get him straightened out.

Former UF tailback Adarius Lemons, who quit the team following the Sept. 8 loss to Kentucky, is in Alachua County Jail following his arrest Wednesday.

Lemons is facing charges of battery by strangulation, a third-degree felony, battery and criminal mischief, each a first-degree misdemeanor.

The 21-year-old from Clearwater is being held on a bond of $65,000, according to records.

Lemons allegedly struck and strangled his longtime girlfriend during an argument, leaving her bleeding from her lip and with various scrapes, Alachua County Court records show.

During the initial struggle, records show, the victim’s left big toe nail was torn off when it hit a railing. Lemons also slammed her iPhone onto the ground, breaking it into three pieces.

Lemons, a sophomore, was suspended for the season opener against Charleston Southern. A week later against Kentucky, Lemons returned two kickoffs for 47 yards. Frustrated he was not more involved in the game plan, Lemons announced on social media he planned to transfer but would remain in school this semester.

Lemons, a former four-star recruit, displayed big-play ability at UF, averaging 7.2 yards on 19 carries last season. But he failed to embrace the nuances of the position.

Former coach Jim McElwain signed Lemons in the 2017 class despite red flags during his career at Clearwater High School.

Lemons was the state’s No. 1-ranked RB heading into 2016, but fell in the recruiting rankings and he was suspended for his senior season after just two games
