I guess more specifically wouldn't it be worth giving him a combination of the plays or 3 or 4 reps of one of the plays I mentioned ? Maybe try a direct snap with him 2 or 3 times a game or maybe a couple of shots at a toss sweep or jet sweep. I know he did a lot of this stuff in HS. I just feel like he won't get that many touches being used as a WR. Who knows, maybe Roper has something cooked up but I just wonder why nobody thought about this stuff in the past.

You realize who our OC's have been in the past right? I'm thinking we give it more than a game to see what they can do. And also, the coaches have seen his progression and know a little bit more of what he's capable of doing post-injury compared to high school. I think we'll be OK with Debose and he should have a good year! Let him get settled back in to playing and with a new offensive system. :swampqueen:

Roper knows what he has in Debose, and we've all seen what he's capable of. It's not Debose's fault that he was mired in a dysfunctional system that preferred ground and pound, field position, shortening the game crap for most of his career. Our offensive scheming and coaching has been horrendous for the last 3-4 years and we rarely even attempted big plays. There was no place for a big play, deep threat like Debose in a ball control, ground first attack. In the rare event we threw deep to Debose, from a percentage standpoint, he made plays. I'm suspecting and hoping that Debose as a playmaker at WR, will be just another topic where a handful of posters here will have to admit they were totally wrong about.

Why some of you insist on confining Debose to specialist only, doesn't make sense to me, especially when there is plenty of evidence on film where the guy is capable of making HUGE plays in HUGE games as a WR.

Routinely draw the DBs in and Debose can burn them.

So let me get this right again. A guy who has been in college for 6 years, is truly a man among boys, is arguably the greatest return man not only at UF but in the history of the SEC, has made huge plays in huge games, is clearly electrifying with the ball in his hands, is probably the fastest guy on UF's team, is a guy UF shouldn't try to get the ball to as a WR?

Makes perfect sense. Let's hope Roper thinks you're as stupid as I do.

I must have missed where someone said Debose shouldn't be used as a receiver.

Actually Debose came in to Gainesville injured, he'd torn his hamstring away from the bone and had to have surgery to repair it.During rehab he had a number of set backs with little niggling injuries that in his words " really frustrated him". He, again by his own admission developed a bad attitude, partially from the weight of being the next Percy, partially because his whole life things came easily to him and his athleticism carried him past everyone. He never really got into his playbook which got him in the dog house with WM abd then the pick 6 in the Sugar Bowl, I know everyone likes to blame Driskel but Debose ran the wrong route, Driskel put the ball where and when he was supposed to. In one article I read he said he and his father had a stdown with WM and was basically told to straighten up or leave. The result was last year where to all accounts he did a helluva job through spring until he got injured. He's rehabbed like hell and knows the playbook , I wouldn't take to much from the EMU game, all the writers who were at the open practices said he was working a lot in the slot. He, Drob , Pittman and Worton were working on slants which evidently will be back in our arsenal. They also had him and Showers doing a lot of reverses and jet sweeps, again we didn't see them sat. but we didn't need to. I would think that we'll start seeing them and the entire offense gradually through the early part of the year until we need them. But to throw the entire playbook at EMU wasn't ever in the cards IMHO.

Loudest moment I've experienced in the Swamp by far, and yes, I picked SQ up and was jumping around on the stairs while rather inebriated. In retrospect, that was a bad choice.

You did, must be because you have Law on ignore.

Thank you for finally admitting that it was probably scary for me. Only took 3 years.

Indeed I do. A rare moment the ignore function worked!

You need to keep posting here. :-)

It also wouldn't be terrible if you found an AV that isn't so repulsive.

Debose is exciting when he has the ball but he's not a running back. Which means other than maybe a jet sweep, if he's gonna tote the rock on offense he has to catch it first. From what I've seen this is far from a given.

Wish I knew what his deal was or better yet I wish he didn't have a deal. Kid was a monster in HS. Injured? Maybe?
I'm hoping he just hasn't been used properly and this year they get it. I still expect him to make me forget Harvin - I think he has the talent.
You can't honestly believe that last bit. He isn't in the same neighborhood.. no scratch that, state.. as Harvin. There are few players in the WORLD better than harvin when he is healthy. Debose when healthy is no where near it and will not end up near it. Can he make an impact on ST and stretch the field on O? absolutely. Can he single handled take the game over from RB, WR, or ST? not even close.
