Not only does it come down to coaching, it comes down to qb play. We've had nothing but awful qb play the past5 years. That's why you recruit as many as you can.

Doubt a real top qb recruit will come this class looking at our situation.

SOS would never work for that azz. I'm not even sure if he would have worked for him has Fooley been the AD in 1990.

I am glad that SOS will not be our coach anymore. He is way past his prime and is very close to the end of his career.

Forget about who was loaded and underperformed and tell me the last time a National Champion won with a roster full of average players that over performed because they're coaching was so good.

It's not about the X's and O's, it's all about the Jimmy's and Joe's.

If you're expecting a NC in the next few years then you're going to be sorely disappointed. I was simply talking about turning back into a winning program. From there we will start see the big time recruits flocking to us again. It's not going to be an instant turnaround this time. The cupboard is too bare and there's simply too much work to be done.

My concern with McElwain right now is that he's recruiting like he's still at CSU. As usual you can't count the first recruiting class for a coach that just got here. But every time we've had a coaching transition they killed it the second year. I've never seen us take this many 2 and 3 star kids. Winning will help his cause but I don't see him making a huge turn-around this year like Spurrier or Meyer did in their second year. And since he's filling up with average players it's going to make each following year that much tougher.

Well, WM did say the roster was already stacked. Maybe JMac doesn't need anything more than 2* and 3*? ;)

I do believe JMac develops players, so even a lower rated kid will suffice for Yr1. Right now it is about getting in kids that can fill the holes and not get arrested or academicaly inelligible. I think he's on the right track for now, and once he starts winning the better recruits will be coming our way more regularly. How is this for a prediction - top 3 recruiting class in his 3rd year. Top five in his 2nd year. Think it will happen? I do.

I don't totally agree with this. On paper Ole Miss and the Great Hugh Freeze should have beat TCU handily in their bowl game last year. On paper Miss. State should have beat GT in their bowl game. FSU had recruited much better than Oregon yet the Ducks spanked that ass. Are you telling me OSU has better players than Bama? Many say nobody has recruited better than Bama in the last 6 years...Should Mizzou have won the East 2 years in a row with their recruiting rankings over the last few years???
A well motivated team made up of above average players that are also well coached will win over a more talented, unprepared and unmotivated team 9 times out of 10.

I doubt many of us after the 2004 season thought we would win one in 2006. I doubt many Auburn fans saw 2010 coming either. If Mac can coach there is no way U of F is ever more than 2 years away from a NC.

Then how do you explain Milan High School winning the 1954 Indiana state basketball championship? :owned:

Glad law is on the record saying this was a bad hire. Any apprehension should fly out the window for people who weren't convinced.

I'd be curious to see Oregon's ratings over the last several years if someone was so inclined. Add TCU as well since tthey're a hot pre-season pick.

And neither has won a championship.

What are Alabama's, FSU's, Auburn's, Ohio State's rankings?

According to those rankings, we should have won those NCs instead of Auburn and OSU. I mean, recruiting rankings are everything aren't they? :dunno:
