I can see it now...NV rollin up and proudly posting pics of his sweet new Honda Odyssey
Well, he’s limiting himself by requesting captains chairs. Model Y?
The 2 vehicles I was looking at are made with Captain chairs. Sure, they aren’t as common but they are out there. I’ve had my personal car since 2004. I deserve to have exactly what I’m looking for.
Of course you do. That wasn’t the point. It was thinking about what models use captain’s chairs. My mind went immediately to a minivan. I’m like you, totally nonplussed by the soccer mom innuendo that comes with driving one. The Model X (I said Y by mistake) is a pretty cool ride if you’ve got a big chunk of change to throw.
FWIW, I am becoming a believer that the only truly quality cars out there anymore are pretty much everything Toyota and their sibling Lexus make, and Honda (though not Acura - their recent SUVs have had some quality issues lately). Apparently, you yourself can vouch, given the life you squeezed out of your 4Runner. When I ditch my Jeep, a lightly used Lexus GX 460 and RX 350 will definitely be among the finalists. While the styling leaves me cold - those front grills are fugly - with care and diligent maintenance, you can expect to get 250-300K miles or more from them. Their longevity and relatively infrequent repairs will offset the higher price for entry - if you're one to hang on to your cars a long time, like I do.
Drove one for 10 years. 89 Wrangler...first Sahara edition. Funnest vehicle you’ll ever drive. Like a big, 4WD go cart.
I've always considered it a motorcycle with seatbelts. It scratches the same itch.
Clearly, you've never ridden a motorcycle. And I suspect never driven a Wrangler, either.
Well, NV? What did you buy? You owe participants of this thread a conclusion. We need a distraction from the recruiting thread.
He got a Dodge Caravan
I wouldn't doubt it.....he's gone from mid sized SUV to Yukons and now Jeeps(cheeps)….He reminds me of the guys who would come in and interrupt my forum/internet time when I was selling boats telling me they wanted to see an offshore boat, then start looking at bowriders and then want to know about Pontoon boats.....I learned early on that once they went from one type of boat to another I would grab my cell phone and act panic stricken then tell them I had a family emergency and would get them another salesman.... NV stop being a p vssy and buy the brand new GM jumbo junkmobile with a warranty and whatever year end rebate they give you. It's not like your wife will let you do this again for another 10 years or so....be a man and buy something.
Get an FJ Cruiser. You won’t look back.
[ I got paid to operate both, frequently, for a few years. Probably have some pics of them doing shyt you wouldnt even believe they could do absent the pic. I know I didnt believe it when I did my first bike training course. No desire to ride a bike now. I also got paid to pick up people who broke themselves on motorcycles. I have no desire to be broken myself. Too many shytheads on the road texting instead of driving or goofy ass Tesla cars driving themselves.
Discontinued you know.
Knew that. Get one without a gob of miles. A very good friend has had his preowned for over 10 years, and the thing is as strong as ever. It’s a sturdy, simple vehicle with not a lot of things that can go wrong.
Oh, no doubt. He is just getting rid of a 4runner and seems to have new car fever. Usually a used car wont scratch that itch. I think he specifically said he deserved it. that's a line the salesman like to use on you. you deserve it. it means a very expensive rapidly depreciating asset.
NV's sudden absence in this thread is disturbing. At this point, I have no recourse but to believe that Urg is correct and that, after all of his bluster about giant, $70K GM SUVs, he did grab a used Caravan. Sad. This is the first time my car buying coaching hasn't earned me a big, fat steak "appreciation dinner".
As a former salesman you should know NV is on the bus....the Be Back Bus...
Still haven’t made any move. I’m considering all of my options. I though that most of the coaching here was to be patient, take your time, don’t be emotional about it and walk away if you need to. However, you all have the itchy bug. I was trying to utilize the EOM/EOY as an incentive but there really wasn’t one so I slowed my role. I’m not buying new, I’m buying used. With that, CarMax has changed the game. There isn’t anymore negotiating on price. Everyone is using the data to price vehicles and not move on the price. It’s a take it or leave it and the next guy will take it. I’m still shopping but not solely tied into the Yukon/Suburban anymore.
