      I love the Heat. I watch all 82 games every year and in-person as often as I can get down there. Crazy, I know...but I am a basketball junkie.

      Getting too old for this shyt now but used to love a Bayside/AAA/South Beach night.

            Report: Udonis Haslem Was ‘Instrumental’ in Convincing NBA Stars to Save Season

            Miami Heat icon [EDIT: and Gator Great] Udonis Haslem reportedly played a pivotal role in getting players to change their minds on boycotting the remainder of the NBA playoffs.



            It was reported that the rest of the season was in jeopardy after players boycotted several playoff games on Wednesday.

            Among those campaigning to end the season was Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James, who sent the world an impassioned message about his anger regarding systemic racism on Wednesday afternoon. In addition, the four-time MVP hinted that players would not resume the playoffs.

            Yet, the NBA brotherhood decided to restart the season on Thursday.

            Haslem, 40, doesn’t get much playing time on the court. However, his influence and leadership amongst players are invaluable.

            While there’s no proof that Haslem and James spoke together regarding the boycott plans, they have a strong public friendship and have worked together on social justice projects in the past.

            The pair played together on the Heat from 2010 to 2014 and won two championships during that time.

            The Heat swept the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the 2020 NBA playoffs.            ​

            Didn’t catch a game last year, but when I’ve gone in recent years, Haslem is very unique in his role. He played a few minutes toward the end, but was basically coaching guys up the whole time. It’s cool the way he’s been embraced in that way.

              Udonis is the Team Captain. Not a co-captain, the only one, and it is not a ceremonial position.

              His contribution to the team comes during practice and offseason conditioning. The Heat have a distinct way of doing things on and off the court called, "Heat Culture," which is just another way of saying The Pat Riley Way. Udonis, the only player still on the roster who played under Pat, is Coach Spoelstra's designated enforcer of Heat Culture.

              With all that said, at this point he get so little playing time in games that I was surprised they used a roster slot for him this year rather than just going ahead and making him an assistant coach. It will happen next year, I'm sure. With any luck he goes out with one last ring, which would make him the only Heat player to have four of them.

              But for the fact that I don't like to jinx things by making guarantees, I'd guarantee that the Heat win the next series against the Bucks. ;)
