    This.
Love to see the drive sustaining plays, even after a penalty. Typically, if we needed more than ten to keep it moving, it was impossible under MacChump

I can't see how anyone can be sure that had Perrine or Pierce been in their to carry out the play expected of Scarlett, that those two would not have given us better results ? Probably, the coach confusion on the RBs is that we pretty much have 3 first string "power backs"??

Last night was a good 'sputtering' win for this novice team. WRs were a great unit - so many good ones. Mind boggling how Franks hit them all. He got 'unlocked' there, for sure. Are we seeing a nimble-minded Franks = more to come ? I hope we frustrate Burrows into many INTs

Exactly. Somehow we demand FF to be flawless and literally critique his every play and decision and break it down endlessly. Every QB throws bad passes or misses a read in the course of a game. I have never seen a QB held to this standard.

I could do it in reverse.....he threw 1 INT and 1 near INT. He also had 1 dropped, 1 blocked and 1 thrown away. He had another incomplete under heavy pressure avoiding a sack. Otherwise he was 22-25 with another deep pass called back.

Actually a very, very good game and executed the game plan masterfully.

I’ve read where FF was affected last year by all the negativity directed at him and Mullen had to work hard on getting him to tune out that noise. Makes you wonder if the opposite would hold true....what if the base really got behind this kid and took his confidence to another level? Interesting thought.

It was such a great feeling, the first in a LONG while where I commented to a buddy that it looked like we were now controlling the game. In a tough, hostile SEC stadium against a team that had this game circled since December. We were outplaying them, outlasting them late in the game, showing physical toughness against a tough SEC West opponent. Watching MSU starting to fade against our hard-charging D and the cowbell clankers staring on in disbelief.

Franks was serviceable, improving in small steps and it appears that he has finally learned how to checkdown to other receivers - I heard 12 guys caught balls for us? O-line is slowing them down just enough to hit the quick passes. Scarlett needs to run to daylight and quit juking around he missed a couple of big run opportunities yesterday. No such problem with Perrine, and Pierce is a fearless north-south Bull. This team is rapidly improving in all phases I feel great about how Dan and his staff are pulling us out of the MacNuss gutter.

Is it possible that cdm knew that he could fix problems and win the second half and just wanted to get out of the first half only trailing by three? Just askin'.

              Nah.
Sure he was happy to be down only three. But he did miss an opportunity. He could have called TO with 30 or 40 seconds left then, reset the D for third down, and then call another TO on 4th.

Watching again, it appears the booth alerted him to time remaining & down/distance...just by watching his reaction on the sideline.

This wasn’t a major transgression but, would be interesting to know his mindset

Meh. Cowbell could have hit a long one and then a field goal. He knew he needed to get these kids in the locker room and calm that cowbell clatter out of their brains.

IT is possible, but it's just the kind of thing a Chimp or Butters does.

The chance of ****zgerald hitting a long one? I would take those odds any day.

That’s a little weak in my opinion.
While there are certain negatives that could have happened, the potential positive plays outweigh doing nothing.

You could be right. If he had the 2008 offense he would have been calling timeouts. Sometimes a fighter is just trying to make it to the end of the round.

Only complaints I had we're the egregious time out on 4th down with 4 seconds left. You never call that with that amount of time left bc they'll just go for it and now you're playing defense on a free shot in the end zone. The fact that he expected a punt there was seriously facepalm level.

The other was when we converted that 4th down around the red zone late only to run slow, gawdawful inside runs and kick the FG anyway. That could have been the defining moment where we stepped on their throats. They were on the ropes and severely concussed. Instead of trying the knockout blow we backed off and let them recover.

But we won in spite of it so hopefully Dan learns from at least the the 4th down call.

Perhaps he has the coaches confidence to protect the ball? The guy has some skills.

Some have a hard time going too positive cold turkey. Mullen had a really good game plan that made good sense. Luckily he didn’t do what everyone wanted on the timeout giving wiggle room for some negativity.

For what it’s worth I agree with the naysayers. I would have called the TO earlier. I just don’t see it as indicative of a coach folding under pressure.

I think the offense will come from a game plan that keeps throwing wide screens and short slants until they begin to press up. Then we can better attack vertically. I also see the running game continuing to improve particularly when we start relying more on Pierce. Even now we are averaging 5.3 per carry weighted down by Franks 2.9. More emphasis on the run game will also soften up the D to hit some big passing plays. I also like the way we are utilizing the TE’s. We had 4 TE’s catch passes last night.

I like that we are involving so many players in the passing game. Hard to predict where the ball is going the better FF gets going through his progressions.

I see the offense improving game by game.

Rex I think it's still growing and the fact that the D seems to be rounding into form is holding us up until we get better and execute more consistently. I think MSU knew our OL was a weakness and with their DL they could play a lot of two high and bottle up the verticals and midfield stuff without worrying about the run. We didn't set any records on the ground, but I think by staying close in the first half and being better conditioned allowed us to get a lot out of the horizontal passing (thanks also to pretty good blocking by the wide receivers) and the effectiveness of this allowed us to score with a double pass.

We got some good ground stuff from Perine and Pierce in the 2nd half, but could have used more, like punching it in instead of settling for the FG. OL was better, but most know they've got to move forward each week. If they do and we can gain more on the ground, the upcoming teams will have to commit at least one more to stop the run which in turn decreases the help they can provide in man coverage. This would be to our advantage with the talent we have in the receiving corps. Franks looks like he can now make most of the throws and better handle the pressure. OL is the BIG key.

No. I think the team is better but I dont think we've played anyone with a pulse outside of UK. So, I'm not gonna get too high or low. Miss St will struggle to be 6-6. 13 pts isn't gonna win too many games. I will say that Dan is doing a good job overall so far.
