49-17 thrashing at the hands of the Longhorns…Yes, we SUCK again (and again and again…). Here’s a few things we should have learned thus far:
- Depending on who you believe concerning the value of Moral Victories, we might actually be 9-0 thus far! Nah, Moral Victories actually count as an “L” and we’ve got five of them now with more on the way.
- When Scott Stricklin tells us that Billy will be our coach next year, what he’s really saying is that he wants to be the AD next year (and likely beyond) despite presiding over some of the worst hires and epic losing seasons in recent Gator Football history. And this is the guy who has failed TWICE (that we know of) to address grossly inappropriate behavior by Gator coaches!
- When Billy says he’s thankful for the chance to continue coaching the Gators, believe him. But I’d like to know exactly what he plans to do differently to change the losing trajectory we are on. Right now, it seems like hanging onto DJ is his only hope. It’s hard to see him magically putting together a top 10 recruiting class or attracting a group of talented players from the portal despite some feelings in that regard.
- Whoever told the press that Warner has an arm and can “spin it” is guilty of Russian Disinformation. I appreciate Warner’s enthusiasm and willingness, but he is light years away from being an SEC starting QB. We could have taken half of his pass plays and stuck the ball in the RBs gut and at least had a chance to stay a little closer to the ‘Horns. Those two were the offensive story today.
- The defense we lauded for their efforts last week against the Dawgs, especially the Secondary who picked Carson Beck 3 times, got absolutely shredded by Ewers today to the tune of 5 TDs and 300+ yds. As an old colleague used to say “they couldn’t cover a hooker with a bedsheet!”
- The scoring streak lives on. As was pointed out it was eerily familiar to the Bowl game with Oregon St where Billy had to call for a late FG to avoid ending the streak. To his credit he did tack on a couple of late TDs. That all means something…doesn’t it?
Some appropriate music for these two…
Sorry Gators, but these two AIN’T IT! And until they’re gone we’ll continue with bad football. You are what you consistently do…and they aren’t cranking out masterpieces. I also think it’s counter-intuitive to think that holding onto a coach on the threshold of a 4th consecutive losing season will somehow “maintain” a good recruiting class and keep some of the current roster from defecting. Losers, for the greater part, ultimately attract losers and repel winners OR their ineptitude inhibits growth of those players with potential. All of this has been on a 3+ year loop. But according to Stricklin, we just need to be patient. Maybe 15 more years and we’ll be a .500 team?
Go Gators…but shaking my head that losing is being accepted by our leadership with open arms!
