Bloomberg tweets that Economists are baffled that some things like food, clothing, cars, and electronics are getting cheaper while other things like health care, child care, and education are getting more expensive.

Gee, I dunno, anybody got any idea what might be happening here? Maybe we can give these highly educated Economists a hand. Economic geniuses Bernie, Liz Warren, and AOC will blame global warming, Russians, Orange Man Bad, and/or high capacity magazines. Anybody have any other theories about what may be causing this baffling phenomenon? Anybody? Bueller?

There's probably a Nobel Prize waiting for whoever can unravel this Gordian Knot.

We may never know why those items keep getting pricier and pricier but if I learned anything from watching Democratic debates it is that the solution is to tax millionaires and billionaires and corporations and give everybody (and illegals) subsidies so they can afford those things. You know, the same thing we've been doing for decades. We just need more of it. Right? I mean...can you just imagine how much more expensive these things would have gotten without government regulation and subsidies? Right?!?

Wow, economists cant figure out why stuff the govt buys causes the price to go through the roof? Weird.

What exactly are they teaching in economics courses these days? Having seen the thinking skills of AOC and LSoyBoy, Im not impressed even a little.

Just need some mo good govt regulation and tax dollars to fix food and clothing too.

Don't we have an economics expert here that usually weighs in on these things? Is he currently on a milk carton somewhere?

Perhaps I shouldn't introduce a serious comment into a hilarious thread, but I know how to lower the cost of (undergraduate) higher education while preserving quality.
                                  1) Create a college (university) that does no research.
                                  2) It selects and promotes faculty based solely on their teaching ability.
                                  3) To be part of this institution the faculty must relinquish traditional perquisites and submit to intensive research into their teaching including classroom visits, intensive analytics on their results, etc.
                                  4) The teaching load would be greatly increased (doubling would be easy).
                                  5) Extensive and intensive use of computers and analytics.
                                  6) Frequent sabbaticals and ample budgets for conferences and workshops to keep faculty current.
                                  7) Salaries fully competitive with other institutions.

LBoy says my AG Econ from UF is not worthy...I could never understand.

One reason FOOD and ENERGY is going down is because we are NOW opening new processing plants and fracking is going full tilt under Trump. Since taxes have gone down, regulation has gone down, food and energy prices have dropped...GUESS WHAT...Americans have more cash.

BUT where regulation has gone up and the Government has taken over...Like School Loans and Health Care...The reverse has happened.

You want Health Care to go down?...run it like car insurance. You want College to go down?...Stop sending your kids.
