Bourbon and Booze

Saw and bought my first bottle of Stagg Jr in several months tonight. I've got some travel to KY coming up and I'm carving out some time to hit a couple places for some store picks.

Tried White Claw spiked sparkling water in Orlando at the FL-Miami game, that stuff is pretty tasty and refreshing on a hot day.

 

Iwai Japanese whiskey.

One of the most impressive ones I've had recently--can be tricky to find since retailers don't order a lot of it, but for the price ($35 or so), it's comparable with stuff 2-3x as expensive.

So I just booked a work trip to Louisville next month. I’m looking forward to picking up some Kentucky only bourbons. Any of you guys have recommendations for me? Alkie?

The Buffalo Trace distillery is in Frankfurt KY (halfway bw Lexington and Louisville) and has my personal favorite: Blanton's.

 

Don't know if it's been mentioned but try Ole Smokey Salty Watermellon bourbon.... Goes down like a Jolly Rancher

 

I scored a bottle of JW Dant and JTS Brown, two Kentucky “only” bottles on my trip to Louisville. For $12 the Dant punches way above its price!

 

Yep....I’m back on the sauce myself. #thanksgrantham

Four pillars from Australia. They’ve got one with Shiraz grapes and it’s killer.

Barr Hill from Vermont. Only botanicals are juniper and honey. Super good stuff.

Yeah not remotely the same. Zima is a malt beverage that tastes like a bums azzhole on a hot summer day.

White claw is lightly flavored sparkling water that will fvkk you up in a good way. You stay hydrated since it’s water so you can just keep pounding the bad boys back.

 

I agree! The MWND is at the very top of my favorite rye whiskies. The only rye that I think is possibly better is Kentucky Owl's 11 year rye. Check it out when you get a chance. It's delicious!

I will say I had a Truly Saturday bc we ran out of beer and it was available. It wasn’t horrible but all night long if I burped it tasted like Red Bull. Very weird.

 

Truly are disgusting lol. I’ve tried multiple versions of these sparkling water things and none of them are good aside from white claw. You literally can not taste the alcohol in white claw, and the flavors are so much more light? And Natural? Tasting. But yeah I’ve tried three other types and they are not really comparable to white claw.

 

High West is legit. They source mostly everything but will have their own distillate for everything coming soon. They definitely know how to age and blend. The climate there is perfect for aging good bourbon.

I was in Park City in February and did the tour. If you’re out that way I recommend it. Good tour and good food. They have some unique stuff available at the gift shop too.

I really like some of their stuff, A Midwinters Night Dram is excellent. I haven’t seen it anywhere at list price but if you want to pay it’s out there. Campfire is also pretty unique. Rendezvous would be a daily for me but it’s a little pricey.

 

That’s the first one I’ve ever had, and it was free. I’m not buying that $h!t

 

Normally my motto is "If it's free, it's for me, and I'll take three," but based on that review I'll prolly give it a miss.

 

My nephew in Atl sends me Stagg Jr and Weller. Both pretty darn good, and free.
