This ranks down there with Gramatica injuring his leg while celebrating a made FG.

Speaking of Sturgis, the Dolphins cut him in favor of another kicker yet his replacement was worse. The Jags cut ties with Scobee yet his replacement probably missed more field goals in one season than Scobee missed during half his career.
Go figure.

Anyone remember a kicker that SOS had in the mid 90's? He kicked the ground after missing a field goal and hurt his knee. How embarrassing!

I actually grew up with that dude in Pensacola. Played soccer with him. His name was Bart Edmiston. After he graduated he stayed at UF for medical school and he's an MD now in Ocean Springs, Ms. He never was a Caleb Sturgis type guy. He was mostly short range field goals and the PAT specialist. Though, back in those days they scored so damn much he still holds some kind of record at UF for points in a season or most consecutive PAT's or something... He also had the good fortune of kicking for the 96 national championship team. I think that was his senior year.

Good dude.., but he took some major ribbing for his "football related injury".

Did you actually ask the question in the first paragraph and then answer it in the second paragraph? Like you were having a conversation with yourself?

One of the many charming features of the GC members!

Great name! From what I remember, Bart did a pretty good job for us and was our kicker on the 96 NC team.

Why yes...yes I did...

Actually I was just asking if anyone else remembered him and was sharing what I remembered about him. I saw him a couple years back and he's still a pretty good guy.

He was. He was accurate and dependable...especially from shorter ranges. If I remember correctly, SOS had someone else do longer field goal attempts. Can't remember if Bart handled kickoff duties or not.

I was pretty inebriated for most of the mid-90s, but I think you're correct - Matt Teague was the other kicker who I believe handled the long FG and KO duties.
From our loss to FSU in 96, before the rematch in NO for our first NC:

Heading into the fourth quarter, neither team was able to score, as Florida squandered two field goal attempts of 40 yards or less (d'oh Bart), and Florida State was unable to get the ball beyond the mid-field mark. In the fourth quarter, Thad Busby managed to successfully drive the Seminoles down to within the 15 yard line, where Warrick Dunn setup a one-yard scamper by Pooh Bear Williams to put FSU up by 10.

On the ensuing possession, not to be outdone, Wuerffel managed to push the ball back down the field for one last shot in the end zone. From the Seminoles two yard line, with just over a minute remaining, Wuerffel managed to hit Reidel Anthony in the back of the end zone to get the Gators back within three at 24-21.

On the following kickoff, Matt Teague managed to kick the ball just outside the left sideline, and Florida State was able to convert their final first down to seal the game.

After the completion of the game, Senior Warrick Dunn, who hailed from New Orleans, always wanted to play for a National Championship in his home town. He would finally get that wish. Unfortunately, the outcome would not be the one he hoped for as his last day as a Seminole.

Does anybody remember Bart Edminston? I think he lost his leg in a wood chipper accident but came back to kick the winning FG in the 96 NC game. I heard he's a Sherpa in the Himalayas now. Or am I remembering that wrong?
