Frank is who he is... Anyone paying attention should have known this was going to be a sloppy low scoring game (thought cUM wouldn't get to 20). Franks had some really questionable decisions, one fumble where communication was off and that second interception was baffling (but so was the playcall). The playcalling and the offensive line didn't offer any assistance, due to being absolute garbage last night. The coaches are in year two with Franks, they know whom he is.

This is pretty interesting data, and goes hand in hand with what some of us have said, including doug78 above. But what really stands out at me is the fact that in that chart, I see a Larry Fedora-led passing attack, Justin Fuente and Jason Candle--two guys that many have raved about here in the past, and Cutcliff coaching a 1st round QB that has looked better than any of the other rookies so far this pre-season. Considering there was zero drop-off or change in coaching in that area for them, and considering it was week 1 on a neutral site, it definitely changes some of the perspective of Franks' performance.

Tebow hung 26 on miami in 2008 with a national championship team.

        26. And needed a late field goal to do that. A Randy Shannon coached miami team.

The truth is, miami usually plays out of their mind against us. There is a hatred there like they have with no one else, not even fsu.

Agree big time....I'm not ready to throw Franks out yet myself and here is my reasoning. All last year we saw Franks start off every game very slowly. The coaches helped him out by throwing laterally to the WR's usually more than a half dozen times in the first half if not the first quarter. The reason for that was to keep them from being 2&10 or 3rd&10....Franks will NEVER be the kind of QB who can or should be put in that position...it's not his M.O....
How many WR screens did we run against UM...1 or 2 I think...So then the coaches went to a very vanilla running game, no misdirection, no counter, no jet sweep, no reverse, not even any speed or outside option(1)....none zip, zilch and nada. They left Franks in the same position he was in under none other than BUTTERS....A straight drop back passer which he is not. Franks ain't great but the play calling didn't help him out one bit. Like you said Franks is who he is.

Not exactly apples to apples. Miami lost 3 DB starters from the unit which put up those stats (Redwine, Johnson, and Jackson), not to mention their team leader in INT's - Dean (who played in all 13 games). So, this is a strawman stat line comparison.

Franks wasn't great, but he certainly wasn't bad enough to lose his job. He isn't going anywhere unless he has a truly horrible performance.

Perhaps not a perfect apples to apples, but there is a lot more than just DB's to consider when having a successful pass defense. Their front 7 is probably in the top 3 we'll face this season and Bandy is a great corner. Again, no one is raving about his performance, but those stats absolutely have relevance.

I think the vanilla play calling with the run game has more to do with the new OL not being able to run the schemes for some of the misdirections and counters. Those guys are just trying to do basic run/pass sets right now. It’ll come along as the linemen get up to speed with the more exotic looks in the run game. Now, as far as franks growing a brain, not a chance. But I don’t think the staff wants ej out there figuring things out behind a line that’s also still figuring things out.

Hope the safeties and tackling improve cuz we’re going to have to rely on the defense for a bit, maybe all season.

                        Where was Jones?

                        What happened to the packages?

Wildcat and a running QB may have opened the run game.

I just don’t think the OL is ready to block effectively for the run game repertoire Dan has. We were worried about this going in and there is no doubt that the coaches would have used Emory if they thought he and the OL could make it work, but it is not that time yet.

I’m sure they will be ready to put in more run game wrinkles as the OL gets it, and that includes stuff with Jones. But I’m sure he and the rest of the team are well aware of the amount of polish still needed on OL.

That said, I think they did ok for an almost entirely new unit getting first starts.

Their line might have been better served with more wild cat looks. Their pass protect was super bad but they gashed us quite a few times.

Meanwhile, our pass protection was fair but our runs were going nowhere. Probably why we didn’t see much toney in wild cat either.

Two weak lines with different strengths/weaknesses. The difference was our coach playing to what he knew our guys could do at the moment and the other coach overestimating his. Miami could have hurt us more if they’d have just committed to carrying the rock. How more teams haven’t figured that out yet just baffles me.

All this hate for the QB of our team whose last five games are all wins averaging about 41 pts a
game going back to last year. Last year we won all four road games (not the game in Jax)
with this same QB. I know the bar for UF QBs is so high you have to be in heaven to see it.
But the fact remains he never had much coaching till last year. He has a lot of passion but
my target audience doesnt approve of how he demonstrates it. Hell, as long as we dont get a
penalty I could GAS. I figure he is celebrating cause we scored. Seems to me if you are a
gator fan you pull for them. Support them. Celebrate when they win. Last time I looked we are on
a winning streak. So why such a whining streak. Put me in the column of those that like Felipe and
hope he continues to get better. QB of UF is only less under the microscope than the HBC.

Our community sprung up when the Gatorsports message board was shut down in the summer of 2014. We pride ourselves on offering Gator-biased, yet critical discussion among people of all different backgrounds. We are working every day to make sure our community is the best Gator message board you will find.
