I was thinking of cars that existed when I was a youth that no longer exist.

The AMC pacer came to mind. Of course the entire company is long gone.

Possibly the most famous around the world is the DeLorean due to the back to the future movies.

Electric and Steam had major roles in the past, not so much today. Perhaps Electric will be the wave of the future, but not until a better storage method exists.

The first car I got on my own at age 18 when I ventured into college was a Ford Pinto. Piss yellow with a mildewed white vinyl top, brown interior with ripped seats. Best thing about it was that I never got rear-ended and got turned into a piece of charcoal.

I started at UF with a red '69 VW Bug, and finished with a '66 powder-blue Datsun 1600 Fairlady. They're 2 of my favorite vehicles of the ones I've owned.

My father bought a stick shift plymouth fury for me, but could not train me properly so I got his much nicer plymouth fury for my first car. He burned up the clutch so I was very glad he did that instead of me.
Two nice cars, it was so long ago I don't have any pictures that I could easily find.

Some time ago I found out that in my current town of Jackson, TN they once had a auto manufacturer.

Anybody else live in a town with an obsolete car factory?

I know it's not a car but it is a blast from the past. It's a 1987 Jeep J10 pickup truck and its the last year these trucks were made.

I bought one brand new and kept it for three years before I sold it and I kick myself in the rear end everyday for selling it.

              I also had a 1972 j20 pickup truck that I used as a mudder.

I had a 67 Camaro in high school remarkably similar to this one pictured. This is easily the only vehicle I’m sorry I sold.

I drove an olive green 62 Falcon for awhile. 2 speed auto on the column. Enough steel in it to make 5 Toyotas today. We dropped a sofa bed on it from a 2nd story and barely dented it (long story) The sofa weighed a ton so it was easier to pitch it over the rail. My BIL wrecked it and it was towed to storage and left so long my FIL couldnt afford to pay it. IT had little power and when you pushed on the gas the wipers would slow down or stop.

My two best friends began with cars like this. Larry had the Pinto and John got a new Chevy Vega. 1973. My brother owned a few pintos and I rode in the back from Gville to Columbus Ga to get our little brother from Ft Benning to come home for Christmas. It was not a comfortable ride for me. I heard the Pinto Larry bought was from a girl that died in it in a wreck on Paynes Prairie. I guess the could repair little cars like that better back then and the gas tank DID NOT get hit.

I had a 67 VW that color with an automatic transm if you can imagine that. My SIL got it for college at FSU. Couldnt manage all the hills with the standard so DAD took it back to the VW dealer in Gville and replaced it with the one without a clutch. Drove that sob for years,........

My favorite first car to drive was this [IMG] except ours was from Fla. and yellow. Was a FLa Highway Patrol car. 440 with anti sway bars and naugahyde seats. And the spotlight. Great for rabbit hunting. It would literally fly. I ran into a basketball court (yes that is possible) with it and dad almost killed me. Engine finally blew and dad put a 383 in it. It was never the same.

I remember Chrysler products with that push button automatic, I seem to remember some issue about patents that made it what they used.
