UNC Admin expected Mack Brown to retire as they had an understanding with him that this would be his last year. He went renegade on them and announced he was coming back, so they fired him.

His reasoning for announcing his return was the kids needed him now now more than ever. That’s code for I’m an egomaniac, I’m bigger than the program and I just know I still have it in me to coach despite giving up 70+ to JMU.
