Honestly, it's the best shot for him if he legitimately wants to coach again....but if the Montana AD calls Stricklin do you think he'd get a good recommendation? I'd hope not.

Meh, it's a whole different situation in Montana vs UF. He'll do fine at a place like that. He just wasn't a hard enough worker for the demands of a P5 pressure cooker.

Why not? Id expect him to be truthful. teams surely have seen his game film and if they are calling then they are ok with the 16 points he is going to bring.

There are plenty of places where the HC does tell the AD what to do. We just arent one of them.

this field is built on relationships and reputations. we may someday need another client of that particular agent. we always have to be scrupulously fair.

Also him getting another job should help our offset.

The Jedd Fisch story is fascinating. Dude was a UF student who served as a student assistant during the early part of the Spurrier era. Coached at PK Younge HS, coached for an arena league team, was a GA at UF (under Spurrier), landed some QA jobs in the NFL, eventually becoming a QB coach, and has landed a few big-time OC jobs (Miami and UCLA). Never played college football.

Oregon State:
Brett McMurphy reports no one involved with the Oregon State search has contacted UCLA offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch about their head coaching job, contrary to an ESPN report yesterday.

Hampton (Va.): Head coach Connell Maynor has resigned. Maynor went 20-25 in four seasons, including 6-5 this year.

Missouri: Athletic director Jim Sterk told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Barry Odom will return next season. The Tigers are 6-5 this year, currently on a five-game winning streak.

Texas A&M: The Houston Chronicle reports head coach Kevin Sumlin will be fired in the days after Saturday’s game at LSU, win or lose. The Aggies are 7-4 this season and 51-25 since he took over in 2012. Sumlin said Tuesday he hasn't been told he won't be back. The move wouldn’t be surprising, as athletic director Scott Woodward said in the spring that three straight eight-win seasons weren’t good enough. The Chronicle adds that Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher will be the Aggies’ top target.

Another head coach opening:

Kent State: The All-American’s Nicole Auerbach reports head coach Paul Haynes will not return, according to a person in the athletic department who spoke on the condition of anonymity. Haynes went 14-45 in five seasons and is in the last year of his contract. The Associated Press is also reporting Haynes will not return.

UCF: Athletic director Danny White has signed an amended five-year contract that will automatically extend one year annually each December.

Minnesota: The school has announced a one-year extension for Fleck through the 2022 season, pending board approval. His current deal pays him $3.6 million annually.

UTEP: The Citadel athletic director Jim Senter has been named athletic director at UTEP. Senter had been at The Citadel since 2014. One of Senter’s first jobs at UTEP will be to hire a new football coach.

UCLA: The Bruins are finalizing a deal to make Chip Kelly the next coach, with an agreement expected by the end of the weekend, according to Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel. Rece Davis said Saturday morning that Kelly will not participate in his ESPN studio job today, as he sorts through coaching opportunities.

Tennessee: ESPN’s Mark Schlabach reports Tennessee hopes to meet with Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen this week, and that UT has moved away from Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell, due to his $9.4 million buyout.

Texas Tech: Red Raiders athletics director Kirby Hocutt told Max Olson of The All-American late Friday night that coach Kliff Kingsbury will return as head coach in 2018. Hocutt said, “I’ve said it before: Kliff has led this program the right way and he continues to do that. We’re excited tonight to get to six wins and to get bowl eligible, it’s good. But at the same time, we’re not where we want to be or where we expect to be as a program. Kliff's gonna continue to lead this program into the future. At the same time, he and I at the right time will have a chance to sit down and talk about what we've got to continue to invest in, what we’ve got to continue to change for this program to get to the level that we expect it to be at. And we're not far. But we're not there yet, either.”

Informed of Hocutt’s words, Kingsbury said, “That's great news. He knows this is where I want to be. I understand 6-6 isn't what we want to be, but that's a great way to finish.”

Arkansas: Bret Bielema has been fired as head coach. Bielema went 29-34 in five seasons, including 11-29 in SEC play.

TCU: Gary Patterson has signed a contract extension through 2024. His most recent extension came in 2016 and went through 2022. Patterson is 159-56 in 17 seasons, including 10-2 this year. Scratch him off any list again for other jobs.

Ole Miss: After beating Mississippi State to finish their season, Ole Miss players say they want interim head coach Matt Luke to keep the job. Luke said, “I’m not gonna worry about that right now. I’m gonna enjoy this night and enjoy these players.”

Mississippi State: Asked if he plans on being the Bulldogs coach next year, Dan Mullen said after Thursday’s loss, “I plan on it.” Bruce Feldman tweeted, “Have been told this AM Mississippi State is set to step up and go all in to keep Dan Mullen at MSU, making an even bigger commitment to him and to his staff.”

Florida State: With staff changes expected, The Orlando Sentinel reports “Florida State is committed to competitively paying any new football coaching assistants needed to assist (Jimbo) Fisher in steering the Seminoles back in the winning direction,” and that the school is making progress on a standalone football complex, an issue on which Fisher has commented many times.

UCF: Athletic director Danny White has signed an amended five-year contract that will automatically extend one year annually each December.

There are way more openings than coaches who the fans of those teams would find acceptable.

In the SEC we have the following

UF
UT
Ole Miss
Arkansas
TAM

People even talked about Auburn at one time. We might include Vandy and Mizzu if they had not turned around their season.

We had a coach out west quit in the middle of the season, and a famous coach retire while still having a good team.

Times are changing or have already changed, many coaches are happy were they are and somewhat money is now equal across major programs.

Texas A&M: Head coach Kevin Sumlin has been fired. Sumlin went 51-26 in six seasons, never posting a losing record, but not winning more than eight games in any of his final four seasons. In the last 100 years, only Sumlin and R.C. Slocum never had a losing season as the Aggies head coach. Sumlin's buyout will be about $10 million.

Arizona State: Athletic director Ray Anderson says he doesn’t want to clean house with the rest of the staff and wants offensive coordinator Billy Napier and defensive coordinator Phil Bennett to stay. Will that be a requirement for the next head coach?

Iowa State: The Cyclones have announced a new six-year contract for head coach Matt Campbell worth $22.5 million. It’s essentially a one-year extension and a raise, as his previous deal was for six years and paid him $2.1 million this year and was heavy in incentives. Tennessee: WMNL’s Jimmy Hyams reports Tennessee has turned its focus to Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy. A few days ago, Gundy told reporters, “I’m rooted here. Knock on wood, if you’re doing good, you get calls. I get calls every year. But my stability here is more than it ever has been.” Bruce Feldman adds Tennessee is also looking at Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm and N.C. State head coach Dave Doeren, and ESPN's Mark Schlabach says the Vols are looking at Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele. @Brett_McMurphy: Sources: Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead will become next coach at Mississippi State. Deal expected to be completed in next few days. https://www.facebook.com/TheBrettMcMurphy/

@FootballScoop: Huge news for Mississippi State.

Feels like next version of Mullen to be honest.

Report: Joe Moorhead to be new head coach at Mississippi State http://footballscoop.com/the-scoop-2/scoop-tuesday-november-28-2017/

This is VERY surprising. Not only the candidate/hire, but how quickly it happened. They literally found out UF was hiring Mullen on Sunday (and this was firmed up on Tuesday). I think it's a very good hire. The guy has done a great job at PSU (in two years) and was a former 1AA head coach w/ a winning record.
