Arkansas: Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables was asked by Bo Mattingly if he’s a candidate at Arkansas,
responding, “That’s a tough thing to answer. I have not spoken to anybody but my representatives have, and I’ll leave it at that.” In addition, new athletic director Hunter Yurachek will have a five-year deal worth $850,000 annually.
Nebraska: UCF quality control assistant Barrett Ruud has joined the Nebraska staff. Ruud is a former Nebraska player. The
Lincoln Journal-Star reports Ruud will coach linebackers in some form.
South Alabama: The Jaguars are conducting interviews this week for their head coaching position, a person familiar with the matter told The Athletic’s Nicole Auerbach, and among the candidates speaking to the school are Auburn offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, Clemson co-offensive coordinator Jeff Scott and N.C. State offensive coordinator Eliah Drinkwitz. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the process is ongoing.
UCF: Kevin Sumlin is out of the running for the UCF head coaching job, according to
UCFSports.com, which adds that interim head coach Troy Walters will interview for the job today.
CBS Tampa reports Toledo head coach Jason Candle is expected to interview for the job today, and Bruce Feldman also reports Clemson co-offensive coordinator Tony Elliott is in the mix.
Florida State: Oregon head coach Willie Taggart will meet with Florida State today, according to
ESPN.
Arkansas: Houston athletic director Hunter Yurachek is the Razorbacks’ new athletic director,
the school announced.
Arizona State: Herm Edwards will have a five-year contract at Arizona State. Edwards said Monday that he will remain with ESPN until Friday.
Nebraska: Assistants who have followed Scott Frost to Nebraska include defensive coordinator Erik Chinander ($800,000 salary), quarterbacks coach Mario Verduzco ($350,000), running backs coach Ryan Held ($300,000), offensive line coach Greg Austin ($475,000), defensive line coach Mike Dawson ($475,000), outside linebackers coach Jovan Dewitt ($475,000) and defensive backs coach Travis Fisher ($300,000).

Arizona State: Herm Edwards has officially been named head coach at Arizona State. Not including recent high school all-star games, Edwards last coached in 2008 with the Kansas City Chiefs. He last coached in college in 1989 as a San Jose State assistant. In a release, athletic director Ray Anderson compared it to an NFL general manager and said, “Our goal for this football program is to reach unprecedented heights, and therefore we need to find a way to operate more innovatively and efficiently than we have in the past. In the spirit of innovation, our vision for this program is to have a head coach who serves as a CEO and is the central leader with a collaborative staff around him that will elevate the performance of players and coaches on the field, in the classroom and in our community. Equally important, the head coach will be a dynamic and tireless recruiter.”
UCLA: Nebraska cornerbacks coach Donte Williams has interviewed for the defensive backs job at UCLA, a person with direct knowledge of the situation told The Athletic’s Chris Vannini.
Kent State: South Dakota head coach Bob Nielsen has not been offered the Kent State job, but things should heat up this week, according to
The Record-Courier.
Nebraska: Scott Frost’s annual salary pool for 10 assistants and a head strength coach will be $5 million, according to the
Lincoln Journal-Star.
Virginia Tech: Justin Fuente says of other jobs, “We’ve been approached and I’ve declined to talk to anybody.”
Auburn: Gus Malzahn has agreed to a new deal to stay at Auburn, according to
247Sports. The deal will reportedly be seven years for $49 million.
Washington: Atlanta Falcons quarterbacks coach Bush Hamdan has rejoined the Washington staff as offensive coordinator / quarterbacks coach. Hamdan worked at UW from 2015-16, the second season as wide receivers coach.
UCF: Former Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin is UCF’s top target for their head coaching job, according to Rivals.com’s UCF site and CBS Tampa.

Louisiana Lafayette: Head coach Mark Hudspeth has been fired. Hudspeth went 51-38 in seven seasons. He won nine games in each of his first four years, but made one bowl in the last three years, including a 5-7 record this year. He also had wins vacated from 2011-14 due to NCAA penalties regarding a former assistant's actions with college entrance exams.
