A recent Zagat rating. Everything like this is of course subjective, but I have never heard anyone say they got a bad steak, or even a so-so steak. Every review--public and private--always has glowing remarks. At the top of their game. I've eaten there numerous times and nothing has ever come close to matching it. Nothing, nowhere. When they used to offer swordfish on the menu, I tried it for the very first time. I seriously doubt there is a true seafood-only place that could match it. These folks do everything top level.

Bones is solid but not my favorite steak in the city . Ironically enough I feel the same way about Gibson/ Chicago .There is a Greek place down the street from bones called Kyma . If you like rack or lamb or fresh fish it’s an absolute must.

Best steak I ever ate was at an Outback in Ft. Worth.

Worst steak I ever ate was at an Outback in NC.

The Outback in Ft. Worth got their meat locally, cooked with a homemade seasoning. I raved about it so much the manager gave me some in a zip lock to take home. I spent an entire week eating steak in the DFW area and the last night there, we went to OB and I was sort of burned out on steak. The waitress said they had the best steak in the DFW area. I thought, you are FOS. She was right, I was wrong. It needed NOTHING. Maybe the only steak I have eaten without steak sauce.

Got tenderloins from Costco last night. Added a little Dales, garlic and Lowry’s seasoning. Perfection. Better than the majority of steaks in restaurants.

You should choose your steaks better if you need to put steak sauce on them. I mean, if it is a good steak, it just needs to be eaten. No need to cover up the bad taste...

Not really a big fan of steak. I thought maybe I wasn't getting quality beef, but thats not it. Ate at the best steakhouses in Texas for a week and they were OK. Just like steak sauce on my steak.

Out here in the Rocky Mountain west, we have a franchise called the Rib & Chop House. I actually had a franchisee in Montana as a client about 10 years ago for some tax issues. Been to the one in Livingston and it was excellent.

When our younger son graduated from UW, we celebrated as a family at the one in Laramie. It was excellent also.

I would place their stakes on par with Mortons or Ruths Chris (I have eaten at both several times), but better priced. They don't carry all the cuts because they have a more varied menu with the ribs and other stuff. They are all over Montana and Wyoming and have one location each in Colorado, Utah and Idaho (guess they are building one in Nebraska according to my brother in law).

My wife and I decided we are going to give the Miners and Stockmen's Steakhouse in Hartville, WY (pop. 64) a try soon. It is the oldest continuous business in Wyoming that is still operating - and it is supposed to be a great steak.

Hence why I do not frequent those places anymore. Instead I do similar to what you did or I occasionally splurge and when over in Naples I stop by this butcher shop and pick up some cuts of Waygu to splurge. Pay the butcher shop price and cook it myself.

Never had Waygu. Is it worth the splurge?

If you like soft meat that feels like pasta then yes.
However, if you like tender meat that has the mouthfeel of actual meat then, no.

I'm clearly not a fan of it and have had it often. Don't get me wrong, it smells good and tastes good but it doesn't FEEL like steak to me.

Because of some of your recommendations (ie @Gator By Marriage and @secgator ) , I made a reservation at Bones Steak House, up in ATL for next week.

Looking forward to it.
:yum:

@Gatorbait25 we also checked out Kyma and want to eat there too. Place looks cool and their menu is amazing.
Get the whole snapper at Kyma with octopus app. If the fish isnt in season opt for the lamb and you’ll thank me later . No one cooks lamb like the Greeks . Nobody
