China-NBA Twitter Dispute: League Abases Itself and America | National Review
South Park 'apologizes' to China for mocking censorship "Official apology to China from Trey Parker and Matt Stone. 'Like the NBA, we welcome the Chinese censors into our homes and into our hearts. We too love money more than freedom and democracy. Xi doesn't look just like Winnie the Pooh at all. Tune into our 300th episode this Wednesday at 10! Long live the Great Communist Party of China! May this autumn's sorghum harvest be bountiful! We good now China?'"
Love the last few lines: "If China is forcing American corporations to impose Xi Jinping thought, maybe it’s time to choose. No more basketball camps in the shadow of concentration camps. No more enrichment of Chinese culture, if the price is our freedom and our integrity. To hell with Chairman Xi, and to hell with every business venture that makes others too afraid to say likewise." A-freaking-men. And this is absolutely something I'm glad that Trump has shown real balls in fighting against with the trade war. No more kowtowing to their perfidy.
To go back to the post after yours that mentioned the South Park episode which came out ironically right before this NBA situation.... Basically what the South Park writers were saying is that China has taken the next step going beyond their traditional domestic censorship when it comes to what comes in from foreign media/entertainment to now actually instructing those media/entertainment countries as to what they can say in their home countries. Basically extorting them by threatening to banish them from the Chinese market.... it's getting high time that the world collectively pulls the plug on china
I set up the DVR to record both episodes tomorrow night... And for those that don't know it, China completely banned South Park in China, that's why they are weighing in. For the record, I think the South Park guys are brilliant and you have no idea how many foreigners have watched Team America and every episode of South Park... they are floored at how SP can churn out an episode covering a current topic in one week.
I believe this next episode is going to tackle the issue of vaccinations.....going to be interesting how they go about that considering their libertarian leanings.....
The China one is re-airing just before it. As for their political leanings, it's funny that they slam pretty much equally across the board. If I had to bet, they will be slamming the anti-vaccers.
his balls and NBA money..........the early espn show was all over it. Apparently NBA is more popular there than here.........billions are at stake and many players get money from the sales of their jerseys etc, in China. So when its NOT your $$$$ its an easy call, I guess.......China is only claiming to sht down preseason games...........nothing about THEY season...........letting American sports , culture and products into a country probably does way more than "diplomatic and political pressure ............I know Im a neophyte regarding anything but teaching but Cuba comes to mind...........
That's why I'm curious....as libertarians it's a big step to say that people should lose rights and be forced to follow a strict government mandate. I think they'll give both sides equal time
If there's one thing that's been proven laughably naive in recent years, it's the notion that "the more Western they become, the more they'll want democracy and human rights, etc." That doesn't work when an authoritarian govt controls literally everything and has perfected a surveillance state. And the NBA has zero sympathy in my book. They've been at the forefront of pushing "woke corporatism" these last 5+ years and now want to play the safe, business move. Eff that.
Yeah, I guess you're right. It's hard to judge decisions based on other people's money. But here's the balance of Harden's remaining contract 2019-2020 $37.8 million 2020-2021 $40.8 million 2021-2022 $43.8 million 2022-2023 $46.8 milllion Not to mention the $28.3 million he made this year and this is just on his NBA contract....nothing to do with his endorsements which Forbes estimates are at $17 million A YEAR in addition to the those figures listed above So.....I think that this changes things a little bit. But let's cut right to the thick of it. The left in this country will support China over the US and we see evidence to this fact daily. I guarantee that if something like religious freedom or gun rights were at odds with Harden's dollars your tune would be completely different. But challenge China on their denial of basic human rights? Can't judge that, cause it's not our livelihood at stake. well, by the numbers it's not James Harden's either unless he can't live without that 4th Caribbean island or his 8th Ferrari so he has one of every color in the Crayola box
Woke corporatism is nothing more than social extortion
Corch, if ever there was a topic we should all be in lockstep with its this one. The tweet that started this whole deal was the Rockets exec bemoaning the fact that China is crushing the freedom of the people in Hong Kong. Then the Chinese government started cracking down on the NBA, who kowtowed to their demands in order to avoid losing Chinese money. If that doesn't piss you off then what does? Its not like anybody who works for the NBA is starving to death. Do yourself a favor and actually read the article I linked in the first post.
Dear China. F you!
Try this one on for size......while the Chinese government is censoring what we send to them, this is what they're doing to us. American universities have allowed the Chinese government to fund centers called Confucius Institutes that provide the communist regime with avenues to infuse pro-China propaganda into American academia. Eighty-nine Confucius Institutes were operating in the U.S. as of September 2019, according to the National Association of Scholars. Elite American Institutions Keep Bowing To Communist China… Over And Over Again
1000 times right in the ear hole
sound like the dems talking about the billionaires............careful , that subversive sht dont fly in here........... YOu too? Look our patriotic gazillionaires in America pledge allegiance to the $$$$$$ not us or anyone else...........its why we have multinational corporations............ Of course im playing devils advocate here.......China wants to control EVERY part of their populace in all ways. Fck them I agree. But dont give me this holier than thou sht about this and turn a blind eye to The Family making deals with China (sons and wives). JFC.............. I Like the leverage the NBA has in this. Chinese folks LOVE them some NBA after Yow and Jeremy played. Taking away their bread and honey may be one of those little dominoes that have to fall before REAL change may occur one day.........but im with all of you on FCKK CHINA and their inhumanity to their people.............
Then I would think that you would be all for tariff's on China. They have been raping us in the a$$ and corporations have been selling their souls, bending over and "begging sir for another" for decades now. China can go f**k themselves and so can avowed communist supporter, Yow Ming. BTW, which "The Family" are you talking about? https://nypost.com/2019/05/11/the-troubling-reason-why-biden-is-so-soft-on-china/ "Why is Joe Biden so warm toward China? Last week, Biden raised eyebrows when he shrugged off concerns over the China threat. “Come on, man,” Biden said. “I mean, you know, they’re not bad folks, folks. But guess what, they’re not competition for us.” Perhaps Biden’s insouciant attitude toward the Chinese government has to do with the fact that his family does not consider them competitors but business partners. In 2013, then-Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden flew aboard Air Force Two to China. Less than two weeks later, Hunter Biden’s firm inked a $1 billion private equity deal with a subsidiary of the Chinese government’s Bank of China. The deal was later expanded to $1.5 billion. In short, the Chinese government funded a business that it co-owned along with the son of a sitting vice president." If it sounds shocking that a vice president would shape US-China policy as his son — who has scant experience in private equity — clinched a coveted billion-dollar deal with an arm of the Chinese government, that’s because it is."
This really doesn't have anything to do with the hated orange man corch. In fact the orange man is the one trying to fight China while others scream that he's going to bankrupt us if we can't buy cheap crapola from them. Meanwhile, China treats human being within their borders like garbage, and they take actual garbage and pollute the planet with it. But hey, lets twist ourselves into knots trying to find a way to argue politics against our message board rivals instead of coming to grips with the fact that the Chinese are some fkers that need to be stopped.
I thought we were supposed to leave Joe and Hunter Biden out of this?
