So basically you're saying you miss the days of Elam and Evans...or as I like to say, Meyer's recruits. Outside of Fowler and VH3, tell me who on this defense would've started from '05-'10.

05-10 those early years were the Zooker's recruits

Coach9, we've been through this but Nelson was a Meyer commit, as was Ryan Smith. The other starting DB was buried on the WR depth chart and Moss was quitting.

But to debate this is foolish. There isn't a player outside of the 2 mentioned that would start on our '08 or '09 teams. Zook had nothing to do with Haden, Black, Spikes, Wright, etc.

The point is, aside from a few stars, our defense in year 4 of this experiment is decent at best. Most of the best plays have come from Meyers recruits. That wasn't the case in 2008(Meyers year 4).

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the defensive game plan did not work today, overall.

The difference is you could see that Davis and others were merely young and would eventually be studs. I don't see that here.

And to be fair, we were a year removed from a title, so you had to kind of trust things. Again, not the case here.

I would add Dunlap to that list. But the secondary was a complete disaster. Haden showed promise, but Black and Wright were awful and eventually panned out.

I think Neal, Quincy, and Dawson will be really good. But outside that? Eh...
