Why do people always apologize for saying what they really mean? He said it, he meant it. He was right. Why backtrack and apologize?

Oh, so that's what Muschamp was waiting on - a call from Emmitt to apologize before he could make corrections?!
Emmitt knows he's family and doesn't want to alienate himself from this program. I'm sure he still feels Driskel should be benched, but he knows his thoughts should not be for public consumption.

He wants to be a Good Gator. PC rules state that you have to backtrack when you tell the truth. Politicians do it all the time.

Exactly, which is why he should have stuck by the tweet - all of the Gator Nation has his back. Muschamp isn't going to be around long-term to matter to him.

Aside from it being an adult that sort of takes an unsolicited shot at a "kid", I see no reason to apologize. That's the only angle I guess his people are taking. It's obviously how he feels, and he wasn't exactly disrespectful in his doing so.

How weak have we become as a society?

I agree that his statements were valid and not as a shot to a "kid". I can only guess there was some concern for backlash from his statements? Emmitt is involved in so many public forums and organizations, I would imagine it was to erase any potential political backlash. Just a guess.

Lost a little respect for Emmitt. Why apologize for speaking the truth? Stand by your comments people or don't say anything at all.

It wasn't a shot at a "kid", it was an honest assessment by someone who has the background to makes those calls. But I agree that we are a weak society.

I was proud of Emmitt for speaking not only from his heart but what 99% of Gator Nation knows. He has not only earned that right....he deserves it. Our head football Coach is a Georgia Bulldog. He played against us. He wanted to beat us (he never will win a Georgia-Florida game). Why in the name of Moses parting the Red Sea did we hire a Georgia Bulldog to be our head coach?

The UF Football program is heading back to where it was pre-1969. Thank you JF for rolling the dice, betting wrong and not having the instinct to fix it.

I wish all of the Gator greats would weigh in on how much they are enjoying the Bulldog leadership of our program.

Even by apolozing now... everybody knows that Emmit meant what he said. He probably realized that what he said was not good for team chemistry and he didn't want to impact that, so he apologized to Driskel, Muschamp and the team as a way to not be a distraction going forward. His tweet already did it's job, it doesn't hurt to smooth things a little after the fact.
