People go out on NYE. Restaurants, bars, clubs, fancy parties with cocktails, champagne, tuxes and little black dresses. They don't sit in front of a TV with pizza, beer, and wings to watch college football.

They should move the semifinals back to New Year's Day. Or, if they really want to start a new tradition, play them on Christmas Day like the NFL plays games on Thanksgiving Day. People open presents in the morning then what? Everything is closed. Maybe a family meal but that's about it. Folks are looking for something to do Christmas Day after the presents. Play those games on Christmas, one in the afternoon and the other in the evening.

An added bonus for fans is that playing the playoff games earlier makes it easier for them to attend both the playoff game and the championship game.

New Year's Eve is just a dumb time to do it.

Alex.

New Years Day would work, but the ****ing Rose Bowl won't allow their precious game to ever be moved.

I was a bit surprised to see the semifinals scheduled amid a heavy sked on New Year's Eve. You want to isolate them as much as possible, preferable on a Monday night or Tuesday night when no one else is playing and the majority of viewers is at home looking for something good to watch.
