i dont understand why we do this. They also run a sh!t ton of toss sweeps, something he never saw here.

In a fully functional downfield passing plan throwing a toss sweep in once in a while even on 3rd down seems to me to be the way to keep DB's cheating on their drop if they're manned up. Come back the next time in a similar situation and fake the pitch and go deep down the middle....i dont understand why we do this.
I feel like our athletic department just totally ignores getting any input from people who actually know football when they're hiring a football coach.Strange how some coaches realize you have to stretch the field in multiple directions and with multiple looks while others try repeatedly to pound a square peg into a round hole.
You picture a guy calling plays just to see if it will work this time IF his team executes the play precisely. Then, if it doesn't get the job done, he sports a grin not frustration.while others try repeatedly to pound a square peg into a round hole.
Sorry, you meant we should throw in some toss sweeps?i dont understand why we do this.
The really sad part is they shouldn't have to...it's supposed to be their job, but I doubt our current AD and staff even watches our games let alone any others in his free time.I feel like our athletic department just totally ignores getting any input from people who actually know football when they're hiring a football coach.
Sometimes a play just doesn't work and that doesn't make it a bad play. A good offensive coach knows why the play doesn't work after seeing it and then decides when it may work...maybe he looks for different personnel on the defense later in the game, perhaps they had an injury, or perhaps the play might work better without motion and a quick count or maybe position on the field where there is more field to work with, mid field vs inside the other teams 20,.....these are the things that make good coaches good or great...You picture a guy calling plays just to see if it will work this time IF his team executes the play precisely. Everything works sometimes, in the right situation. Screen passes work when they are playing soft fearing the deep pass. Playaction works when they expect the run.Sorry, you meant we should throw in some toss sweeps?
Toss sweep would be great to have available, Montrell or Baugh. Baugh's a big kid. Young, but did well in the Spring game. Hope we get to see him worked in.Nothing works well when you are predictable.
We are far too predictable and not just in play selection. The entire pace the offense works at is constant. The cadence and the overuse of motion are cringeworthy. I'd have to look closer at film, but it doesn't look like we ever use different formations to run the same play(SOS was well known for doing this)Nothing works well when you are predictable.
Pace: Takes so long to snap the ball. I don't get it. I know I know Coach, it doesn't matter if they execute. We are far too predictable and not just in play selection. Somehow given Trackhawks as well. Texas is gifting players Lambos. Crazy.18 year old kids given free muscle cars/trucks. What could go wrong?
Imo... this is the bad part of capitalism. Free markets are great except when they aren't.Somehow given Trackhawks as well. Texas is gifting players Lambos. Crazy.
I remember Meyer constantly harping on the need to have a numbers advantage so when a fast guy gets in space, he can break it.Pace: Takes so long to snap the ball. I don't get it. I know I know Coach, it doesn't matter if they execute.
Cadence/Motion: It is hard to watch. Why does he insist on taking a man off the field, essentially? Do something with the player in motion once in a while.
Nothing works when you're inconsistent either.Everything works sometimes, in the right situation. Screen passes work when they are playing soft fearing the deep pass. Playaction works when they expect the run.

I think he opens up the playbook this year… didn’t want to reveal much in first two seasons.Everything works sometimes, in the right situation. Screen passes work when they are playing soft fearing the deep pass. Playaction works when they expect the run.

It's worse than that. At least three times in the Arkansas game alone, the pre-snap motion actually moved an extra defender into the very exact space where the play was designed to go. And every single time, the defender contributed to the play on the ball resulting in limited or no gain. It's like we are cock-blocking ourselves.Cadence/Motion: It is hard to watch. Good questions. We'll see.I thought he hired an army of analysts to self-scout. Are none of them seeing this? Are they showing him the film on this? Is he dumb, or arrogant? Or both?
