Nearly two months after leaving Florida, Marqui Hawkins has found a new place to ply his football wares.
Hawkins confirmed to 247Sports.com Monday that he has decided to continue his playing career at UAB of Conference USA. Because of NCAA transfer rules, Hawkins will be forced to sit out the 2014 season.
He will have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2015.
“I just got the call from the staff,” Hawkins told the recruiting website. “They called and said everything is good to go. My transcript has went through. I’ll be arriving there on Thursday and starting summer school. I felt UAB is a place I can play and its close to home.”
Hawkins also stated he received interest from Nebraska and Wisconsin.
Hawkins was a three-star member of the Gators’ 2013 recruiting class, rated as the No. 50 receiver in the country coming out of high school in Macon, Ga. He took a redshirt as a true freshman last season.

Did you miss this part?

I felt UAB is a place I can play and its close to home.

I wasn't ever nearly good enough to play at a school like UAB. Perhaps you were, but really regardless of comparisons, he moved on to another school without (to my knowledge) causing any trouble at UF. I don't think that warrants ridicule.

Yeah, the transfer rules are bass ackwards. If coaches can skip out of one school and coach the next year at another, athletes should be able to as well.

Seems to be having a little trouble kick-starting his collegiate career. At this rate, he'll be a full fledged adult before he sees the field.

Agreed. The student is on a one year contract which he fulfills then waits to see if he is offered another yet he gets penalized for leaving. The coaches are on multiyear multimillion dollar contracts which they break slickwillynilly and get no penalty.
