UF announces times for team media day, first practice

UF announces times for team media day, first practice

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida has released its tentative fall camp practice schedule and for the first time ever the Gators will get underway before their annual Friday Night Lights recruiting event.

The team will gather and report for fall camp on Thursday, the same day it will also host its team media day. Coach Dan Mullen, coordinators John Hevesy and Todd Grantham and more than a dozen student-athletes will meet with reporters to discuss the upcoming 2019 campaign.

Swamp247 will have complete coverage of the annual media day throughout the day, with follow-up articles and video highlights available on the website after the conclusion of the event.

Meanwhile, the team will open fall camp bright and early on Friday morning, with the first practice scheduled to begin at 8:20 a.m. Select periods of practice will be open to the media and Swamp247 will provide live updates and a comprehensive recap of everything we see (and are allowed to report).

The Gators are coming off a 10 win season in Mullen's first year leading UF. It was a good first year, and the Gators look to improve upon that record in 2019.

"I think we took great strides in our first year in the program," Mullen said earlier this month at SEC Media Days. "You know, when you look in year one, you get a ten-win season, you finished ranked sixth in the country in the final polls, it was really exciting. It showed how fast our guys bought in to what we're trying to do and what we're trying to build. And we have a great group of guys coming back, a lot of talented players coming back on this year's team that now have won games and have high expectations and understand what the Gator standard is all about.

"It's about competing for championships every single year. And the positive attitude we have is really exciting."

Florida opens the season on August 24 at Orlando's Camping World Stadium against the Miami Hurricanes. The game is a prime time match-up on ESPN that will start at 7:00 EST as the two teams will be the only FBS programs playing at that time on that day. Mullen is excited for that season opener with all the eyes of the college football world watching.

“I think it's huge,” Dan Mullen said of that game. “I mean, there's a lot that goes into that game. We're the opening game of the 150th year of college football. So it's a great honor to just be involved in that game. You have the -- everyone that's been really -- can't wait for college football to start, we get to kick the season off with getting to watch Florida play Miami.”

Stay tuned. Florida football 2019 is almost underway.

You could argue this is the biggest opener since 1987 the last year we played Miami every year. An in-state team when we are a top ten ranked team and the game having that week all to itself unlike the 17 Michigan game will result in a real big national audience. Mullen needs to take back the state of Florida and show teams they aren't going to win in this state when they play Florida.

Eight months without college football is intolerable.

          We need to fix this.

I've been watching replays of UF games for weeks now.

On that note, that 95 Tenn-UF game was a hoot.

Fan Days can be fun, only this is on my anniversary so it’s probably out...or I’d hit up my middle party connection with Heggie (I know a guy whose kid was friends with him) to see if I couldn’t get early access lol (my friends wife got this a few years back).

They haven't announced that. I'm going to guess less than 3. They'll probably let the media into the first 15 minutes or so and then kick them out.

I've said this many times...Mullen wants Fan Buy In...Open some practices...Even the NFL does it. We can see for ourselves.

What I can't stand is when coaches like Butters MacShark told/tell us how great our OL was/is and then we OPENED with Michigan. Or Addazio, "Graded Champion".

                This is huge news:

Noah Banks expected to return to practice for start of fall camp

Noah Banks expected to return to practice for start of fall camp

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida's offensive line appears to be getting a big boost as the team gets set to begin fall camp on Friday.

The unit has widely been hailed as the singular key to success for an offense that returns virtually everyone at the skill positions but must replace four of five starters up front. The Gators anticipate getting swing offensive lineman Noah Banks back for the start of fall camp.

"He's got a couple other things he's still working on, but I know he wants to get back to the team," coach Dan Mullen said. "Everything I've told is he's on track and he'll be ready to practice on Friday."

Banks suffered an epileptic episode during a practice leading up to the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl in December. He had not been cleared to practice since then, missing the rest of bowl prep and the game against Michigan, as well as all of spring practice.

However, Banks had been working out with the team in most of the strength and conditioning work over the offseason.

Apparently now he's in line for a full return, great news for a Florida offensive line that needs to add some quality depth and the experience Banks can provide.

Banks is a redshirt senior who arrived to Florida as a junior college prospect out of Iowa Western College. He appeared in 12 games for Florida last fall, recording his first career start against Idaho.

He played both guard and tackle for Florida during practices and could be a key utility guy for the Gators on the offensive line if his health holds up.

My favorite was UT 2002 at Kneel and Bob. Pouring rain. Nothing much happened and then with only a few minutes left in the half they completely self-destructed. You've never heard 100,000 people be so quiet. Then they began expressing their appreciation for our Gators by showering the fans in the lower bowl with gifts. I was nearly the recipient of a couple of beers to the head. It was glorious.

Our community sprung up when the Gatorsports message board was shut down in the summer of 2014. We pride ourselves on offering Gator-biased, yet critical discussion among people of all different backgrounds. We are working every day to make sure our community is the best Gator message board you will find.
