Good for Detroit, but I wonder how long they’ll last before the unions put them out of business... again.

Off topic but back in the 70s my wife had a little 2 seat Fiat convertible sports car....most fun to drive car I ever had. It was low to the ground and handled like a gocart with doors. A pure death trap but a blast to drive.

I couldn't imagine why any company would build a major plant in anything but a right to work state, but I checked and found that Michigan passed "right to work" legislation in 2012. I must have missed that. It at least gives Fiat-Chrysler a better chance at not going out of business this time.

Will the people of Michigan remember this on Election Day 2020? 1.6 billion dollar plant should mean a lot of work building that and then for the Chrysler workers at the facility after that.

Barackis will claim it, no doubt.

The ressurrection of manufacturing, mostly smaller and medium scale has been remarkable.

Even though the King Baracki said those jobs were never coming back.

And they can try to build, but we will make them bankrupt.

          And magic wand.

I think I read where UAW people will get first shot at the 5,000 jobs, then regular folks from town. Automakers fled Mo's hometown like cockroaches when the lights come on. Then Trump had a breakfast and colluded with the Big 3.

            From Jan 2017
President Donald Trump pressed his bring-jobs-home agenda yesterday in an hour-long breakfast summit at the White House with the CEOs of the Big Three and other auto industry executives while he also “[looked] to mend fences,” as the Wall Street Journal headline puts it.

“Trump pledged to speed up regulatory reviews for business permits and create a friendlier climate for companies that want to invest in the U.S., stepping up his push to curb the flow of jobs overseas,” write the WSJ’s Christina Rogers, Peter Nicholas and Mike Colias

“We’re going to make the process much more simple for the oil companies and everybody else that wants to do business in the United States,” Trump told them. But he “also reiterated that companies would pay a steep price should they not comply with his ‘America First’ credo, echoing his Twitter messages in recent months threatening to slap a border tax on companies moving factory work abroad.”

“I think as an industry, we’re excited about working together with the president and his administration on tax policies, on regulation and on trade to really create a renaissance in American manufacturing,” Ford CEO Fields said afterwards, Fox Business’ Matthew Rocco reports. GM’s Barra “echoed those sentiments,” Rocco writes, and Fiat Chrysler’s Marchionne said his company “shares President Trump’s desire to build a strong manufacturing base in the U.S.”

            But Orange Man bad.

Coulda missed it 'cause media played such conservative wisdom down and because any single positive article of pragmatic conservatism is flanked by 5 why-it-will-fail" articles, "how-it-will-hurt" America articles.??

Fiat Chrysler proposes merger with Renault, would be third-largest automaker

Fiat Chrysler proposed on Monday to merge with France's Renault to create the world's third-biggest automaker and combine their investments in the race to make new electric and autonomous vehicles.

The merged company would reshape the global industry: it would make some 8.7 million vehicles a year, leapfrogging General Motors and trailing only Volkswagen and Toyota.
Renault welcomed the idea. The company's board met Monday at its headquarters outside Paris to discuss the proposal and said afterward that Renault will study it "with interest." In a statement, Renault said such a fusion could "improve Renault's industrial footprint and be a generator of additional value for the Alliance" with Japan's Nissan and Mitsubishi.

I think that’s what they were called
Took a road trip with my Uncle ( he’s only 5 years older)
Virginia to Daytona to Orlando and back.
                  Before 95 was done.
                  Had to cut through Savannah.

                  Funny
                  Great times.
The starter went out, and every time we stopped for gas or food, I would jump out and push start it.
Yep, like pushing a Golf cart!!

                  Sorry for the off topic.
I couldn’t resist the old memory.

No hers was the 850 Spider.....both were little rear engine pieces of chit but a blast to drive with the top down. The x-19 was a Cadillac compared to the 850 Spider. The X-19 weighed around 2100lbs the 850 Spider weighed 1600lbs. The Spider was about the size of an MG Midget
